William Bryan Man I had an awesome post to write yesterday. I thought about it yesterday when I was with my friends at a bar/lounge and then when I came home, nothing I totally forgot what I was going to write about. Has this happened to you? What do you do when you have an idea to blog about and you are not near a computer? It really made me angry and I don't want it to happen again. thanks in advance.

Luckily though, we have made advancements in the technological world and don't have to have anything more than our Smartphones. In my phone, I have a notes section where I jot down all kinds of things when I don't have paper nearby (sometimes even my grocery list). If you don't have a smartphone you could always just text yourself the idea before it gets away.

TOP IDEA: Dian Reid I help you dig through the BS to: get real about where you are, learn from what got you there, and what you can do to move forward—you know, to where you really want to be.

Mariel McKone Leonard I've been just following this network for a while, but you all seem amazing, so I want to ask for some advice. I've been blogging for over 2 years now, but have gone thru so many changes I'm not sure exactly where I am. One thing is always constant: I need to write, so I've kept at the blog. My question is, where do I take it from here? A post that sort of explains where I am is http://everydayidealist.wordpress.com/2010/01/30/lessons-from-other-blogs/. I'd really like some help. THANKS!

People surf the net for 3 reasons:

1) Information: to solve a problem immediately.
2) Curiosity: to learn something.
3) Entertainment: self explanatory.

Your blog does not seem to fit into any of these categories at first blush unless you’re writing for your mother.

What do you want out of your blog?

If what you want is a place to put your writing, well then you’re done.

If you want someone to read your stuff, you need to fit into one of these three criteria.

Sarah Wood I need advice about going temp (from an temp agency) to perm. I've had great performance reviews and my boss (Chief Marketing Officer for insurance company) let me know I will be getting an offer letter within a week. My coworkers tell me to counter-offer no matter what. How do I do this? In person? Via email? What do I say? My position thus far has been Executive Marketing Assistant; my boss says he sees me as Chief of Staff one day. What is a reasonable starting salary?

Dian Reid Hi Kim, I agree with @Andrea. Seems like many here @ Brazen have a blog. It's what you put into it that makes you different from anyone else. If you don't have anything to say, or don't think a blog would benefit your business, then don't worry about it. But if you think you might have something to say, or that a blog would benefit your business in the slightest, give it a shot. Blogs are easy to set up. See if you like it and go from there. Whatever you do, just be you.

How do you get a lot of people beyond your core FaceBook and Linked In and e-mail contacts to know you have a blog about _____topics with bio too?

On how to grow a blogging community, tell people in person. If you're writing about an event, tell the speaker. If you're writing about a great restaurant, tell the manager. If you write well, they'll come back for more.

Dian Reid Thanks so much for the feedback, everyone. @Jessica: I have the same thoughts re: I'm not Ann Landers. I'm not an expert, so the general type blog just doesn't seem to work for me. It does take a lot to post personal...the raw stuff is what gets the best responses, and it's also what's hardest to actually press "publish" on. Seems about right from what I'm reading here. You guys rock.

Kim N. Campbell Hey Penelope! I don't know if I'm feeling paranoid because of the tenacity and ambition of the Brazen crowd, but does everybody have a blog? If blogging and building your personal brand is becoming so commonplace it's no longer novel (but expected), how do you set yourself apart from the pack? What are everyone's thoughts on this?

104 weeks ago from Ask Penelope Trunk!

Kim N. Campbell: oh and @ Jay, are you reading Godin's latest book, Linchpin right now? I am and I absolutely love it.

Puts in words a lot of things I've long felt to be true. Working on living up to the goal of artist = entrepreneur/entrepreneur = artist, being fearless with my ideas.

Learning to look inside more for reassurance, not out. Always hopeful of support, but got to give it to self regardless.

You'd think I'd've figured this out already.

Dian Reid What are your thoughts on how personal to get in a blog post? I guess I know where Penelope stands on this, I read her blog...but what about the rest of us who aren't Penelope Trunk? Do people really care about the personal stuff we bring to the table?

If your blog preaches to instead of engage the reader, they will lose interest. I have three blogs and one is my personal journal of sorts where I pretty much reveal lots of things about myself to perfect strangers who may or may not relate to my struggles. It's my creative writing experiment that allows me to vent and purge and the hope is that others can relate. www.writingforfame.com

Dian Reid I find that scheduling blog posts in advance makes me more attentive to posting everyday. And outlining on paper before I get online helps me brainstorm for MUCH better posts. What helps you publish better posts?

But If you don't think it's effective, or if it's bothersome to my readers I should just get rid of it. I hadn't thought ab that impact of having the key word tags be too long ... I'll keep that in mind going forward. Thanks a lot!

Thao Le To answer the questions in this network, my current hurdle is selecting my tribe, getting rid of the friends I outgrew and making friends that contribute to my growth. I've done a lot of self-reflection and I've said plenty of goodbyes, especially to toxic relationships. What's really important to me is how everything in my life aligns with who I am.
