About Me

The Aspiring Media Maven, also known as DeShaun Maria Harris, is a college graduate cliché turned on its head. As a high school student in rural Georgia, she knew her goals in life would require a larger stage to act out than her hometown of 45,000 residents could provide. So, with innate drive, quick wit and great passion for all things media, she began her quest to find out how she could make an impact in her chosen industry. New York City is where she ended up.

But the glittering lights of Times Square are not what attracted her. Rather it was the opportunity to learn the inner workings of corporate media, so that she could eventually use her knowledge for societal good. Her ultimate goal is to lead a multimedia news and entertainment company that celebrates the diverse culture that is American. In addition, she plans to provide apprenticeship opportunities for aspiring media business students from backgrounds that are underrepresented in mainstream media.

When she's not working, networking or scanning the Net for media-related news, she's fulfilling her desire to remain eternally a tourist in the new city she calls home. Her blog is Lives of (Aspiring) Media Mavens--a great experiential resource for young media professionals.
