Ryan Paugh Okay, so now that the Italian Sausage is gone I am ready to tackle the Baby-Back Ribs. Keep in mind that I don't have a grill because I live in an apartment. I do have a slow cooker. These ribs looks really good and I want to do something cool with them. No traditional BBQ sauce. Any ideas, recipes, etc?

Turns out they weren't baby-back-ribs after all. Sorry about the confusion. If you have a slow cooker and some short ribs try this recipe. The marinade was so good. Add a little sriracha if you like the heat.

@David and @Ryan, I totally agree with you on Express. Their clothes fit fantastic and look great.

Another good spot is www.topman.com. It's a UK site and they have great slim cut shirts and cool ties (among other things).

I only dress up when I have an off-site meeting, conference or speech.

@Kirk: Topshop is a great store. I wish they had more locations in the U.S. They have a flagship in NYC that I've been to a few times. I'm not a big fan of ordering online because I like to try things on.

Another good spot is Uniqlo (http://www.uniqlo.com/us/). They're a Japanese company and they also have a flagship in NYC. Unfortunately you can't buy their stuff online yet.

David Dotson Hey Dallas BCers, do you know someone in need of a fantastic, highly skilled executive administrative assistant with over 15 years experience directly supporting senior execs? If so, I have an excellent candidate for you.

David Dotson Currently listening to Powerglove. They do Dragonforce-esque speed metal versions of classic video game music from the 8-bit and 16-bit eras. Guitar work is mind-boggling at times.

My playlist is pieced together from their 2 albums. My personal favorites are

Mario Minor (Super Mario Bros. medley)
Power, Wisdom, Courage (Zelda medley)
Metal Kombat for the Mortal Man (an excellent blend of Mortal Kombat theme and the Metal Man music from Mega Man 2)
Dr. Wily's Theme (Mega Man 2)
So Sexy Robotnik (Sonic 2 medley)

A lot of people love the Tetris theme from their first album, too. There are no lyrics to any of the songs, and it is very dynamic stuff as far as changes in speed and style. The instrumentation is nothing short of masterful. Listen closely to some of the double kick drum rhythms and the two-hand tapping patterns on the lead guitar. I'm kind of a metal-head, and I've heard a lot of stuff, but there aren't many bands who are this technical and yet this fun all at once.
By the way, good choice in Hammerfall! How were they live?

Powerglove was more theatrical, I guess because they're younger. Hammerfall is of course awesome, but not the best live band ever.

I'll have to check those out. I've been out of the loop from finding a lot of younger metal bands for a while. Have to get back into it.

Ryan Healy I'm curious, how many hours do you guys spend working per week? Being entrepreneurs, I'm sure we're always thinking about work, but how many hours do you actually spend working?

David Dotson: 40 hours a week at the day job, and another 20 or so on my own projects.

David Dotson Got to see Ben Folds with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra a few weeks ago, second row. Absolutely phenomenal.

David Dotson Lately it's all about the 90's-style 3-chord pop punk. New Green Day in the stereo, and Blink coming in September! :)

138 weeks ago from Music

David Dotson: New Green Day (21st Century Breakdown) is amazing. Structurally its like American Idiot but has a lot of musical influence from Warning era.

Karla Mercado: Sweet. I'm really excited about the new Blink. I hope Tom kept his quirkiness after that mellow side during his Angels & Airwaves stint.

Ryan Healy I'm a huge Kings of Leon fan. Glad to see they are getting famous now. Gonna see them for the first time live in a few months.

138 weeks ago from Music

David Dotson: I like what I've heard by Kings of Leon, which unfortunately is only 2 songs now. Good stuff; seems indie-ish, but catchy enough for radio.

Karla Mercado: I have a few live Kings songs in my iPod. Yes, they are pretty amazing live. Very soulful.

Karla Mercado Anyone here who listens to Dave Matthews Band? What do you think about their latest album? I thought it was perfect!

138 weeks ago from Music

David Dotson: Haven't had a chance to hear the new one. I like to think that I like DMB, but I seem to really only listen to a few songs from each album.
Karla Mercado: The new one is so much more upbeat than their older albums. It was dedicated to LeRoy, their saxophonist who died a few months ago.

David Dotson Austin is cool for a weekend visit, but Dallas is nicer, has slightly lower rents, and you don't smell pot ever 10 steps you take.

Ryan Stephens: David - I kinda prefer to mellow Austinites to upscale Dallas area, but I love the Addison/Frisco area.
