TOP IDEA: Steve Cleary Last night's networking roulette got me thinking about a project I had put on the back-burner, iPhone roulette. This is a fun and engaging app that incentivizes people to re-connect with their friends and families. The app runs through the user's contact list and randomly selects one of their contacts. The user is then faced with the decision to call (10 pts), text (5 pts), email (3 pts), or skip (-5 pts). Or something to that nature. Then points are shared online. Whaddya think?

If you scroll through your iPhone contacts, I'm sure you'll find more than a few "Oh, Yeah! Him!"s. This app is just a fun way of encouraging people to keep in touch.

Good point though to allow the user the option to set which contacts should or shouldn't be included in the spin. I know I wouldn't want to lose points for skipping AT&T customer service or the Pizza place at 9am :^)

Ali Brown I'm shy and need to improve my networking skills. Any thoughts on how to strike up a conversation with someone you've just met? I work for a large company and have opportunities to speak with people I'm meeting for the first or second time, but I'm missing networking opportunities because I'm too shy, or think of "the right thing to say" 10 minutes later. Any tips?

Be authentic and dont worry about being more chatty/bubbly. People will be attracted to who you are. Sports is always a good thing to chat about. I love college and pro football so in most business groups that is a great icebreaker.

People say I'm an interesting guy at social network events not for what I say, but for what I don't say. I listen. People find themselves interesting and you can look interesting to other people just by making them feel more interesting. You have two ears and one mouth and you need to use them in that ratio. I agree that the way advertising reaches its target is changing. EX: Netflix has started releasing it's own licensed copies of movies for rent. These movies have previews AND ads before a movie which are not skippable and provide them a DIRECT revenue stream from subscribers.

No matter what, your data will be more secure sitting at your place of residence - backed up, encrypted, and physically locked up in your basement on a server.....rather than online allowing, potentially anyone to access your files (as seen with the Twitter incident).

Dave Salamack: Your data is only safer locked up in your basement until the basement floods. As long as you are responsible for the back-up, encryption, ...MoreYour data is only safer locked up in your basement until the basement floods. As long as you are responsible for the back-up, encryption, business continuance and disaster recovery plans (don't forget updating, administering, testing these plans and all the infrastructure involved in delivery of these services) than I have to agree with you that IN is safer than OUT. However, few organizations (even huge non-IT companies) have the resources to perform all I have explained above (and that's pointed out in the article). If they have the resources, they are hard pressed to perform better at a lower cost.

If you run a no-risk accepted business (like the military) then keeping your data inside is for you. However, every business runs with some level of acceptable risk and the cloud is just that, an acceptable minimal risk compared to keeping it all inside.
