Owen Nwanze Ever feel overwhelmed by the abundance of social media/online information? I often find myself opening multiple tabs on my browser and telling myself I will revisit them. Needless to say, I rarely do. If your answer is yes, I am curious to know, do you have a specific way of organizing your daily intake of information? I'm aware of online tools like Hootsuite, iGoogle, Google Reader, etc, but I'm wondering which tool, or combination of tools, work(s) for you?

Mike Dammann: I restrict myself to Facebook and Twitter, but have it set up so Plaxo, Friendfeed and all the others get my posts as well.

They do get overwhelming sometimes, but I've lowered the content limits for Twitter and created a priority-based folder system for RSS feeds. I don't really care about Facebook anymore, it's annoying.

Wow, such an inspiring story Daniela!

Do you have any pointers for staying motivated when you're working hard but are unpaid and have no prospects of being hired (at the moment)? What do you tell yourself?

Each person is different but for myself I just kept busy and I joined groups that could help me build my knowledge during the slow times. Take advantage of the time you have. Because my career focus was social media I went to Tweetups, joined social media clubs and just kept busy learning. Meetup.com has so many great groups on every kind of topic. I had no idea that the payoff would be as great as it was, I really did set myself up for success by doing this. I am now known in my area by local social media leaders and this is key.

Emma Hi all -- I just joined BC, glad to be here. I run a relatively new women's career blog, http://www.janehasajob.com, and I wanted to get everyone's feedback on commenting. The site gets a good number of daily visitors, but people rarely comment! Seems like the commenting goes on via other sites, like Digg or Twitter, rather than on the actual blog post. I'd like to get a comment dialogue going on the website, and was wondering if anyone has any advice. Thanks!

@Daniela -- that's great advice. I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for more city-specific info.

@Sandhya -- it's actually the Thesis theme for Wordpress. It costs money (I think around $80), but it's easily customizable and there's lots of support. Here's my affiliate link if you're thinking about it (hope this is okay): http://www.shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=210935&u=440852&m=24570&urllink=&afftr...

hi Emma,
i have the same issue! I've only just started writing my blog (as in June this year) and I don't have any idea how to get people 1) come to the site 2) comment. the advice so far has been great. I amy trying to comment on the blogs I enjoy more often now, so that I can build up a presence online a bit more, but I had no idea about the other methods!

i also, have no idea how to track how many UVs i'm getting on my blog (hosted by blogspot).

keep it up, it's encouraging to know someone is in a similar situation to me!

I am not familiar with this because I have never done a traditional PR so hearing how you did it really helps. Can you tell me how I would go about finding a list of press sources in my area (OC)? Also how many people showed up the first Shore event you mentioned as a direct result of the published article in the business journal? Also were these posts posted on the restaurants website as well or just on your blog?

Ashley Garner So It is the 2(ish) week anniversary of my blog and though I enjoy blogging and writing, I don't have any readers, or if I do, no one is commenting. I don't mind that people may not all have the same interest (pre-law,social media) as me, but I would love feedback and suggestions from experienced bloggers, or english majors.lol Also any tips on how to get my blog out there? I use twitter to tweet updates and same for linkedin. preprofessionalmusings.wordpress.com

Once in a while I do ask for comments on someones experience relating to a post, but for the moment is mostly about me. I would like to add a page where I highlight/interview pre-law, law and recent law school grades. Thank you so much for taking a look at my blog and giving me these helpful tips. It is going to be a busy weekend!
