Cameron Plommer What is the best business/personal development/professional development book you've ever read? I'd like to know your all-time favorite as well as the best book you've read that is 0-3 years old. Some of the new books that are my favorites are Making Ideas Happen, Rework, Switch and Linchpin. Two of my all-time favs are How To Win Friends and Good To Great

All time favorite: Falls in the personal development is "The Power of Focus"

Career Development: "What Color is Your Parachute" <--helped me get clear on what I have to offer the world and where I want to offer it. I picked it up when I was at a low point and have never looked back since.

@Kiran: I just finished reading, "Leadership and Self-Deception" very powerful stuff, have you read this book from the same authors that is the pre-quel?: "The Anatomy of Peace."

Ryan Healy A friend of mine is in the final round of an interview for a very high level position at a great organization. The org asked him to present a plan for what he would do in the first 6 months after he gets the job. How would you attack this request? A. Research the org, put together a plan based on what you find and present it B. Tell the org that your job is to listen and learn for 6 months, then you will prepare a plan C. Something else Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

TOP IDEA: Daniel Hoang There are two types of people: operators and creators. Operators take a set of instructions and perform a task. Creates design the instructions and methods. Learn to do both to excel in your industry.

Josh Allan Dykstra I know there's a trend to cut costs by leveraging technology via videoconferencing, etc. -- and normally I'm all about using tech to accomplish this. However, I have this feeling that there is just SOMETHING about a live, human connection that can't be duplicated any way but through travel and an in-person visit... thoughts?

Daniel Hoang: I typically have in-person meetings initially to build trust and relationship, then we can start having video conferences and phone calls.

If you see something that requires change (there is always something), find one person who is open to mentoring. build a personal relationship with them based on what you respect about them (soft skill/ hard skill). share with them your knowledge and skills. let them direct you and enlighten you and do the same for them. other team mates will notice. then encourage more mentoring. great teams are teachable and transparent

(Though I've done a fair amount of work in health care and education.) We seek to understand how people use products, including websites, and design solutions uniquely tailored to them...and to business, since the interactive sphere is typically a twining-together of both. Amazon's a prime example of good UX.

I do only necessary personal things at werk but try to separate my chunks of time otherwise I feel like I need to make it up all the time as I need to know that I have not ripped off the company (even though I have werked way more in the past that would make it up).
