People are fickle and happy to jump on a bandwagon if their friends say it's better. The problem with social networks today is that they don't mimic natural connections between people. Connections are fluid and dynamic. They happen then they're done. Facebook tries to unnaturally segregate your connections based on your predefined terms (in lists and privacy). This doesn't account for overlap and how people become less/more important to us over time and at times.

We'll see what happens with who innovates on what features. I can tell you this right now - it won't be Facebook or Google. In my mind they're already done.

@Ryan i'm bullish on foursquare. geolocation and particularly social gaming are white hot right now (zynga etc). foursquare seems well positioned to capitalize on these trends.
