Cynthia Welch I'm currently an associate product manager for a telecom company. I'm looking to move forward in my career. I have an int'l business/finance background but would like to continue in the technical marketing field. What applications and software programs should I master in order to move to the next level? Several jobs state MBA prefered however the executive MBA programs dont stress any technical programs. Should I bypass and learn some new skill and if so which ones?

You must be employed, based in the U.S., responsible for the management of email programs, and manage a subscription base of over 10,000 email addresses on one or more lists to participate.

I posted this in a couple groups but I think that you could be a great fit for the study given your marketing position and background. If this is something you're interested in please fill out the survey below.

It's a great summary and all it would require is an "update" to include newcomers or personal favorites. The approach and structure should save you some time...why reinvent the wheel? :)

You might also look at programs with market research and consumer insights classes. Most E-MBA programs enable you to access the same classes, if not create an identical concentration. Basically it's an MBA where they strip out the bulk of finance and accounting (although both get brief mentions in the program) and replace them with heavy enterprise technologies. Best part for me was it was only 11 months versus the 2 year MBA program. Same instructors, a lot of the same classes, half the price, half the time. It didn't give me the technical chops to code up an application but it did give me the knowledge to manage IT staffs and have a historical perspective relating to IT in the enterprise.

I'm sure you can find something to the same extent in your local area.

Ange Right now I am pursuing a career in Accounting, But I am feeling so much internal resistance. I feel resistance to continue and I feel resistance preventing me from quiting. I am considering doing a second bachelors in Computer Science, but I am afraid that will be another dead end for me. I can't seem to find north any advice.

If you haven't had any experience in coding, gathering requirements, debugging and so on, it's going to be a mighty steep learning curve getting to the point of doing so for a living.

For example, if accounting is something you like, you could pursue similar work in an educational technology company and surround yourself with people who are your tribe. If you hate accounting, that's a whole other story. If you are really undecided, you might want to hire one of the coaches here on Brazen and work with them on this issue. Sometimes it takes someone else to help get you closer to perspective.

However, we are now living in Oslo Norway so I bought a subscription with a US phone number. So now for $6.99/mo, I have unlimited calling to the US and if I am on wifi, it doesn't cost me any data usage. My wife got it initially when she came over here for a company conference in the summer. she uses it both personally and for business, so the US office can call her US number and avoid the int'l call charges. That said, I was not overly impressed by the quality and would not consider it for critical phone discussions due to some poor connections and dropped calls. But, since their recent outage, I have noticed a marked improvement in quality. If it continues, I'd not hesitate to recommend them.

Tariq West What would you say in a college graduation speech? I'm graduating from college in a couple of weeks and considering applying to be Baccalaureate Student Speaker. I have a good chance at winning this honor if I can find a compelling theme and tell a great story. The prompt is as follows: "Share a reflection on how your spiritual journey has informed your education and commitment to the public good at Stanford. Inspire your classmates as the sole student voice during Commencement Weekend."

Cynthia Welch Hi fellow ENFPers. So I thought I'd pose my career question on this post because we share personality traits and maybe you can understand why my current situation troubles me. So there is a very competative person in my workplace. Every meeting turns into a competition on who's better. I dont enjoy this, nor do I want to spend all waking hours over compensating and working extra hard to try to "show up" anyone on the next meeting. I prefer to stay out of conflict. Any advice?

Jane Dedek Hi Cynthia, Personally, I'm a technology trainer, presales, and best practice consultant, recently dabbling in social media and marketingish areas... I'm the "SME" who's good at warm and fuzzy client interaction without having to get too bogged down in the details or politics. But it took me ages to figure out these were my strengths. :)
