TOP IDEA: Penelope Trunk I wrote this blog post about transparent salaries. The story was picked up by the New York Times and then I was featured on 20/20 talking about this topic. This blog post made me realize that it's possible for bloggers to guide mainstream media instead of the other way around. http://bit.ly/WifQZ

Not only would I prefer not to disclose, but I don't want to know what my peers are making. I have my own financial plan and what my peers make doesn't factor in. I have one peer who constantly asks me about salary and it drives me bonkers. He's also very competitive.

Rebecca Thorman I had six phone meetings scheduled today. So far, the first three - all of which were trying to pitch me something - stood me up. I find this ridiculous and a complete waste of my time. We talk a lot about email and phone message etiquette. What about meeting etiquette? How do you have a good meeting? I would start by saying you should show up or follow through on calling the person.

Sara Gallagher For those who are as long-winded as I am...how did you learn to keep your blog posts short and readable? When I find a topic I'm really interested in, it is difficult for me to keep my posts under 1,000 words. It just seems like 200 words is never enough to delve into the nuances of a subject and say something original.

Stephen Spector I just got my copy of the new community manager research - Community Manager Research Version 1; (http://blog.angelaconnor.com/) ; here are the quick bullet points from the results: * Only 1/3 of those surveyed reported having a clear job description with well-defined goals and objectives. 40% indicated that they are “making it up as they go along.” * More than half are seeking other community manager positions outside of their current employer.

This misconception causes the Community Manager role to be under-utilised because they are doing too many irrelevant tasks that prevent them from being an actual Community Manager.

The point of the assignment was to choose a job you really wanted then come up with how you would define your "brand" in respect to the role. We did a SWOT analysis on ourselves/the industry which was an excellent exercise. We had to come up with a feature & benefit of how we would add to the organization and write about why we'd be a good fit. My favourite part was called "Communicating MY Brand" where we talked about how dress, behaviour, and communication methods affect personal branding. A fabulous self-discovery!

Cameron Plommer Bloggers: how do you balance between writing for your own blog, and reading other blogs? To be a serious blogger should you be more extreme in the producing side and not balance the two? DO you find yourself reading too much and neglecting your own blog? Here's another thought: is blogging a zero sum game? As in, is there a fixed number of blog readers and not everyone can have a blog with even a 100 subscribers or a consistent audience.

I have wondered how much reading vs. writing I should do. I have found myself absorbed in reading and commenting and in return seem to have more ideas that pop up in my head to blog about throughout the day as I am out and about. The more I read the more things in life seem to stand out to me as things that I feel I want to write about and share and get other peoples feedback on.

Cameron Plommer Do you passively read books, or do you take some form of notes? This is more relevant for nonfiction obviously. I'm in the process of writing a post about how I organize I remember information and part of that is taking notes. I'm curious what your methods are though.

Ryan Paugh How does your Personal Brand affect your salary? I just read an article in Inc. magazine by Dan Schawbel (http://bit.ly/9GSfVF). He compares Coca-Cola to a supermarket brand cola. I just put it in my about page and wrote a few posts about the currency of the new rich, being personal autonomy over dollars and cents.

At the time, I never really considered the effect it would have on a job interview. This interview happened well over a year ago. Since getting the job, I have taken down my old blog, and transformed it into my new one, (paulmacpherson.net became paulmacp.com). paulmacp.com is focused on “personal branding”, “online reputation management” and “social-media”. I don’t hide the fact within some of my off topic posts and my about page, that I am still aspiring to the “location independent” lifestyle, but it is probably less visible than it was. My old blog lacked true focus and talked about too many topics.

In the early days of this year, I focused myself on the task of properly entering the new world of social-media (LinkedIN, Facebook, and Twitter). I did this with the goal re-branding myself, with the hope of building a career/life plan to “change careers” and maybe “change the world” while I am at, over the next 24-36 months. I have become a participant within the Brazen community as part of this journey.

Nathan Lustig Wordpress bloggers: I'm working on a new post for my company, Entrustet.com, about what bloggers want to happen (if anything) when they pass away. I know its kinda morbid, but I'm looking to get opinions from bloggers to use in my post. So what do you want to happen to your blog when you pass away? Do you want it deleted? Left up for others to view? Transferred to another writer so they can keep your blog updated? Don't care since you're dead? Respond here and let me know!

Hi everyone, I'm currently with a venture foundation based in Asia and heading up a potential media production company that will be aimed at featuring various social entrepreneurs throughout the world. We're experimenting with various social media avenues to bridge the gap between social media and social enterprises, to see if there could be any synergies. If anyone is interested to talk or bounce ideas please let me know. Thanks alot!
