Laura McCallum Has anyone else seen this video entitled "Validation"? No matter who we are, and what we do, we all seek to be validated by others. This 16 minute short film is well worth the watch - and you may find your business picking up as a result! I liked it so much, I put it on my home page. By the way, all Brazen Careerists rock! You are awesome and you are great! :>) I'd love to hear what you think of it! You'll never look at a smile the same way again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cbk980jV7Ao

Christie Scott I'm looking for a few passionate entrepreneurs who are trying to "save the world." I'm producing a new reality show for the net where I talk to entrepreneurs about their ups and downs. If you're interested in being a guest, leave me comment below so we can connect. Thanks!

Christie Scott I don't HAVE to adhere to a dress code, BUT, in the professional world, there are "understandings" about how a successful entrepreneur "should" dress. I LOVE fashion, shoes and jewelry, love to dress up, but I also love that on a daily basis, I don't have to dress up. I would probably need to step up my daily wear, though, I have become quite busy and henceforth, shall I say lazy? :-) What about you?

I adore fashion but when it comes to reality for me, I never leave my yoga mat flip flops, my un-straightened hair.. and worst of all, no make up lately! My problem is totally a mix of laziness and comfort. I hope whenever I eventually need to get into gear for dressing up, I can snap to it though!

in regards to shoes i wear them high because i sit at my desk all day and when i do trade shows i opt for flats but recently the dansko patent clogs have been looking very yummy... then sometimes i think dansko clogs really has it come to that where comfort trumps all?

Vickie Elmer I recently wrote about three people who started a training company while working full-time -- the article is here: http://bit.ly/djqnwM . It made me wonder how people juggle day jobs and start-ups and for how long. How does this work for you? Is this duality becoming more commonplace? And do you ever feel like you're giving up all your free time (as the guy in my article did and as I sometimes do)?

Yes, I think this is becoming "normal". ALL of my clients have multiple businesses.
Now, it can become a problem IF you are starting multiple companies at once, I do not recommend this.
However, it is the way most of us "make it" in this environment.
The key is probably how you manage multiple businesses or jobs. So, what are you guys using as project management or task management between the differing priorities?

Christie Scott Do you say as a coach or mentor, "You should do this or that" for work/life balance. BUT, when we really look closely how many of us have really achieved it? I don't think even 5% of mothers who are business owners have. We just can't! Kids, the growing business, it's all too much! How can we really fit self care and "me" time in? I am a workaholic by nature, AND I have bills to pay! That will ALWAYS be true! So, what will we do about it? I have an idea, but am I brave enough to follow through!

Mine idea would be that if it's important enough to you, than you should just do it! I'm not a workaholic by nature, but I do have a lot of responsibility on back. I've made an conscious effort to avoid work during specific time periods that I've set aside to be with my girlfriend or family. I also give into the temptation during emergencies. Is that anything like your idea? I'd love to hear what you were thinking ...

Seems I am not alone in this experience.

@Angelo as many of the others have said, the "insanity" others mention seems to really be just a difference of thinking or behavior from the norm. I agree with most here, entrepreneurs are, by nature, different.

I enjoy the paradigm explained in the book E-Myth. There are three types of people, Entrepreneurs, Managers, and Artists. Entrepreneurs, by nature, thrive on taking risk. They are afraid, just like everyone else, but they take the risk anyway.

To complete; Managers are driven by organization and systemization, and ultimately optimization at the measurable level.

Artists are driven by quality production, always striving to make it bigger, better, more, etc.

All three skills are required for a business at all times. Often one person fulfills multiple roles (e.g. I am currently the manager and entrepreneur of my company.) This is not ideal, since working outside of one's core ability leads to stress and eventually burnout.

Christie Scott You guys are really reaching out, for mentors. It is tough to find a mentor, I was fortunate to have one when I started my company. He saved my soul on those days when it seemed that all was lost! Indispensable! What about a mentoring relationship with one mentor and many "mentees". We could create a support forum for you all, a shared support & mastermind call, once per week. Eventually, you could support each other too!Let me know if you are interested.

Well, let's create a group and a forum, then we can get started. We can meet once per month and communicate virtually otherwise.
I will make an answer email or video to any question any of the group asks about business, marketing, sales, management, anything.
Anyone else wanna jump in?
You all are begging and asking about mentors, now's the time! Raise your hand. No strings, no cost, just my way of giving back and reconnecting.
However, if anyone is not conducive to growth of others, hogging the calls or acting unethically inside of the team, then I do reserve the right to disallow anyone, sorry!

Christie Scott I didn't realize that so many other people were having multiple jobs/careers and there was a title for it! Slash jobs, eh? How interesting. Just ordered the book you guys mention. I do have multiple positions, plus I am a mom and wife, so my life stays about at 10 on a 1-10 scale! But, I really thrive and have been for all of my adult career :-)

Hi,
I am launching an Internet TV show, where people can get thousands of dollars in value in free coaching/mentoring, in return they share this experience with viewers, so that they also can learn from it.
If you or anyone you know is interested and they want to talk, and see how I work and if it would be a helpful experience for you/them, let me know.

It explains exactly that - the importance of having the WHY so clear that everyone knows how the why you do what you do fits into the WHAT you do.

In case you're interested, the book I'm listening to is How We Decide, by Johah Lehrer. I highly recommend it.
