Jake,

I like the post, I always like to remember that just because something takes a long time and may be hard that that somehow means it's important and/or productive. This just reminded me to keep that in mind! Thanks!

Ryan Paugh I got interviewed this morning by a reporter who wanted to discuss Generation Y's heightened interest in Parks & Recreation careers and other careers related to the environment, conservation and the outdoors. Do you think that this has to do with inherent Gen-Y traits or the opportunities made available to use through social media. Are we more idealistic, or just more connected?

The availability of green jobs has increased because of their social relevance. Also, I think Gen Y'ers may be more interested in the field (regardless of job availability) because we've been brought up under the pressure of "having to live with the mistakes of the past" and when the social relevance became more socially relevant, we were coming into the age(s) where we decide on a direction for our career.

Chris Williams I'm looking for some advice on a project I'm launching. In June, we'll be launching Pinup Power, a renewable energy pinup calendar. The concept is simple, we need 100% renewable energy and we need to make RE sexy and cool to do this. We'll be launching a national competition in June to find Miss Pinup Power, and another 11 girls that will be featured in the calendar. What advice would you give to spread the word? Thanks for the help!

To paraphrase an article I read recently, I would prefer that "when [people] think of making money, they do not go first to [women's] breasts."

Are those really the people making decisions about renewable energy? If your goal is to reach as broad an audience as possible to get out an important message, I'm afraid you're about to shoot yourself in the foot!

TOP IDEA: Elysa Rice Lindsey Pollak posted 10 Great Career Books for Young Professionals http://bit.ly/bAuWB0 - I am odd in that I love career/business books. I'm currently reading They Don't Teach Corporate in College which is on this list. Do you have a career book you'd recommend to young professionals?

I continually reference "Who Moved My Cheese" and "One Minute Salesman." For the latter, it's not just for people in a literal sales job. Everyone has something to "sell" - an idea to your boss, homework being done by your kids, or dealing with customer service people. "One Minute Manager" and "How to Manage Your Boss" (an old little spiral book - not sure if it's still around) were quite helpful to me as I got into mid-management.

I highly recommend "Never Eat Alone" by Keith Ferrazzi. It has helped me so much in my career already by understanding that business relationships are to be treated like a luxury, not a commodity. Fostering and building your network with meaningful relationship is so much more beneficial than just collecting business cards.

Ryan Healy John Mayer says Twitter is overrated, Tumblr is the future of Social Networking because it's about intelligent conversation http://bit.ly/diKKRx. he makes a great point. Anyone else notice that Twitter is getting very crowded? Too much noise, too little substance.
