About Me

Chris Sweigart is the Director of Social Media and a Multimedia Journalist at 11Alive News (WXIA-TV) in Atlanta, Georgia. During his career at 11Alive, Sweigart has also served as a Web Producer for 11Alive.com.

Sweigart began his journalism career at WRBL-TV in Columbus, Georgia. As a reporter for WRBL-TV, his work knew no borders. In 2005, he was embedded with the Army’s 3rd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, based out of Fort Benning, Georgia, during the unit’s second deployment to Iraq. Aside from covering Fort Benning and the Army, he also covered city politics. While his job description said “Television Reporter”, Sweigart often contributed articles for WRBL’s newspaper partner, The Opelika-Auburn News.

After two years as a reporter, Sweigart was promoted to Web Site Coordinator for WRBL.com and OANow.com. During his time running both sites, he implemented dozens of online initiatives including the launch of AuburnVersus.com and a redesign of WRBL.com.

Sweigart graduated from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta with a degree in Politics. While in college, he worked behind the scenes as a production assistant for CSS covering sports around the Southeast. He also completed two internships at CNN.

After college, Sweigart was promoted by CSS to Associate Producer/Reporter, and was assigned to cover the Atlanta Falcons for the 2003 season on a new network launched by CSS called FalconsVision. It was the first 24-hour television station devoted entirely to one NFL team.

Sweigart grew up in Duluth, Georgia and attended Duluth High School. When he's not covering the news, he can be found on the golf course, taking in a good baseball or hockey game, or hanging out with friends.
