As the owner of the software consulting firm CSEDEV, Chris Smith’s expertise is concentrated in development, integration, and communication. Consequently, he was has been consulting for the government for seven years in the information technology field so that he may introduce software that enables open collaboration between large organizations and individuals.
Even though he was born on July 28, 1985, Chris’s dedication to his work far outstrips most of his competitors in the field. By breaking down barriers between communication, CSEDEV enables incredibly efficient resolution processes for customers, managers, and support representatives.
Chris’s desire to foster a more transparent and engaging dialogue extends to his daily work on CSEDEV’s website, where he blogs about issues related to obliterating the barriers that hinder communication. Because of his work, he currently resides in Gatineau, Quebec, but was born in Brockville, Ontario, Canada.
He is a supporter of charitable groups including Make a Wish Foundation, Alzheimer’s Society, and the Ottawa Heart Institute.
He also owns two dogs and one cat.
Marine Safety, a branch of Transport Canada's Safety and Security Division, develops and enforces legislation, regulations and safety standards for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of commercial ships, mobile offshore drilling units, air cushion vehicles, and other special purpose vessels.
These applications were developed using ASP and Visual Basic COM technology and utilize a corporate Oracle database.
Responsibilities include:
• Application design including domain analysis, software element analysis, and user interface planning.
• Application development and implementation of process methodologies within the technical environment.
• Testing of application using unit and regression methods to recognize any bugs in the system prior to the products release.
• Preparation of application documentation detailing the internal design of the software for the purpose of future maintenance and enhancement.
The Business Infrastructure and Support Division is responsible for all automated testing of mission critical government applications, and all office automation / web development and maintenance within one of the primary directorates within PWGSC.
Responsibilities included:
• Change Request (CR) and Problem Management Report (PMR) Analysis.
• Creation of Test Plans and Test Cases for CR’s and PMR’s.
• Client support by providing technical and application knowledge base support for SPS, GBS, CDFS, and CFMRS.
• Analysis, design, and programming requirements for the Test Management System (TMS) within BISD.
• Detailed knowledgebase and use of the BISD Rational automated toolset, including RFT, XDE, Rational Robot and older inversions like SQA Robot.
• Using structured system techniques when prototyping upgrades to TMS.
• Maintenance of Government websites for Compensation and the Receiver General. Conversion of CLF1.1 to CLF 2.0
