My name is Catherine Williams. In May 2010, I graduated from Appalachian State University with a degree in Violin Performance. Three months later, I picked up my life and moved to Tallahassee, FL to begin an MM in historical musicology at Florida State.
At FSU, I work as a graduate research assistant. I am involved in the Irish music ensemble, and my personal research interests include gender issues, 19th and early 20th century music, and American music.
I still try to play violin everyday. I am currently concertmaster of the Big Bend Community Orchestra. Additionally, I play fiddle for an Irish traditional band, the Ned Devines.
One of my ongoing projects is an ALS fundraiser over at http://dft.ba/-ALSproject. Starting at the end of May, 2011, I began with a goal of raising $200 by my birthday, in January of 2012. At the end of the fundraiser I would add $100 of my own, bringing the total to (hopefully) $300 for the ALS Association - a group dedicated to ALS research and care-taking.
I started this fundraiser over at my YouTube channel, http://www.youtube.com/themaddestcat. Lucky for me, YouTube is a great medium for running donation campaigns, and within a week we had raised nearly $800 - and the numbers just kept rising.
Currently, we have raised just over $1500! The new goal is $2000, by January 2012. If you would like to donate, please head over to http://dft.ba/-ALSproject. If you would like to get involved or to hear about fundraiser updates, please check out my YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/themaddestcat. Thanks!
Although I have since moved on to the more academic side of music, I did earn a degree in violin performance. I play weddings, church services, etc. Available for hire in the Tallahassee, FL area.
Major responsibilities included scheduling, organizing, and delivering review sessions in music history before each major test and offering individual tutoring sessions on request.
Graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BM in Violin Performance and a minor in History. Founding member of first student chapter of the College Music Society, 2009. Received Undergraduate Research Assistantship, 2010.
