Lara I'm a management trainee in an insurance company. I'm not happy about my work and its environment. I've already lost my confidence level in performing my tasks. My boss keeps on pounding me to strive but I've totally lost my appetite to recover my mistakes. I want to leave but there's a bond that I need to pay if I leave voluntarily. It's too big for me to pay. I'm depressed and I don't know what to do. Please help me.

Taft Love I am hoping for some feedback from some coaches (and anyone else willing to help) with a new idea in my job search. My current job has made it impossible to search for a job in person in the places where I want to work. I decided to get creative and start a blog (http://taftsjobhunt.blogspot.com/) to market myself. Would you please take a look and give me any feedback that might help maximize the effectiveness of the blog?

Thanks for checking it out, Mike. I appreciate your input. I would like to put a link in the site's home page directly to my LinkedIn page.

I would love to do the "test before you buy" idea, but my location and current job might make that difficult. I work a crazy schedule that might make it hard to coordinate something like that.

Thanks again,

Jamie Nacht Farrell Everyone talks about using LinkedIn to help with their businesses, professional networking, and connections. I do as well, but in the "sales" or "strategic partnerships" side of business, I've found that FACEBOOK has been far more helpful for me: http://bit.ly/ht63Cb wrote about how I closed a deal using FB for clues as to how to best build rapport. Have you used FB as a way to learn about your potential clients? If yes, have you using what you know about their personal interests?

How ...MoreI would also add that on top of people liking you (which is very important), you have to have a unique voice or perspective that they trust. How do you develop this? Give advice away for free and help them solve problems. I can't work for free all the time, but with people that I am just starting to build relationships (or even old high school or college friends), I often will give them counsel and help them work through issues long before they start paying me. Once they feel comfortable with my level of expertise and they know I can get things done, the relationship usually develops to a paying one.

The central premise of relationship selling is that you do what's best for the relationship........period. Above all, everything you do in an interaction with another person should be with an eye towards how XYZ will impact or mature the relationship. Again, the book "Go-Givers Sell More" is a must for anybody in consulting or sales.

Amanda Veinott As a young professional woman, I found myself holding my breath in annoyance as I was reading this article about the "risk" of hiring young professional women: http://tinyurl.com/666uyd8. They obviously didn't interview me or women like me that know we can manage work, side businesses, family, children, etc. all at the same time.

I do not ...MoreFirst, young women as a whole should not be typed as “risky investments”. We are individuals, capable of making our own career choices. I do not want someone else making career or family choices for me. Mr. Murray makes the erroneous assumption that all young women want to get married and get pregnant. He also makes the erroneous assumption that young women who do get married and get pregnant are not valuable employees.

His second assumption most likely is based on what Kathy Caprino calls the “white male competitive career model”, which obviously doesn’t even consider women and our careers. http://blogs.forbes.com/85broads/2011/03/25/mandating-women-at-the-leade...

Mr. Murray also seems to have missed studies such as Deloitte’s that indicate that companies with gender diverse teams have a competitive advantage. These studies also show a correlation between Fortune 500 companies that are in the top 25% for women representation on their boards and an increased return on equity. http://www.deloitte.com/assets/Dcom-Global/Local%20Assets/Documents/Publ...

Turning to Ms. Singh’s post, according to anecdotal evidence provided by a small group of women from one field, “women don’t feel the need to break the boys’ club as their predecessors did”. Yet, according to Pew Social Trends, the most cited “major reason” for the small number of women in executive positions was that “women who try to rise to the top get held back by the ‘old boy network’”. This was followed by, “doors have not been open long enough for women to make it to the top” and “there are few women in high corporate positions to inspire others”. In fact, “family responsibilities” was cited as only the fifth major reason.
http://pewsocialtrends.org/2009/10/01/the-harried-life-of-the-working-mo...

The third major reason brings me to another point: there are other possible explanations as to why those AmEx female employees rebuffed the opportunity to stay on part-time. The employees probably didn’t have many role models within the company demonstrating how it’s possible to have a career and a family.

Additionally, the president of the small-business division didn’t approach them until after they had already made their decisions. A more effective approach would have been to begin a general discussion much earlier about various options, before the women even began planning to start their families. Furthermore, those women chose not to stay on at AmEx, that doesn’t mean they pulled out of the workforce altogether. I’m sure some of them did, but some may have gone on to other employers, and some may have started their own businesses.

Lauren brings up some interesting points, but I agree with Mika Brzezinski (not related to me), in that women can have it all, but we can’t have it all at once. Sometimes work will be front and center, sometimes family will be front and center, and sometimes something else will be front and center. BUT, it’s up to each of us to make those decisions, not a prospective employer.

Moreover, a woman’s ability to focus on her career while still having kids at home can often depend on her choice in a partner. During my Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership course I took while earning my MBA, I heard again and again from women entrepreneurs and business leaders that the most important business decision a woman can make is her choice in a partner. After listening to their examples, I full-heartedly agree, but I also see a need for changes in the workplace that encourage both women and men to provide financially and emotionally for their children. However, this only addresses those women who have a partner, and not single working moms. While single moms may need more flexibility in their work schedule, I hardly see them as a risky investment as most need to work to provide financially for their children.

Nancy Bruce I'm getting ready to juggle three jobs/projects, but I need to get organized so I don't overwork myself. Is there a computer program/app/site etc. that can help me develop a schedule? I'd like to be able to input certain variables such as what days I should be available to do which job or project and how much time I'd like to spend on them. And then it'd be great if it could calculate possible weekly schedules. Does this technology exist or am I just dreaming? I need time management help.

If you are already having reservations, that's not a good sign for your long-term happiness. I agree with the other comments here about going to the third interview, as the more information you have, the better, and it will probably confirm your initial feelings so you can be absolutely sure when you make your final decision. Good luck!!

But sometimes you want to include it b/c it demonstrates different skills or a foray into a different industry. Also, as a recruiter for 10+ years, I've seen resumes with more than 1 short-term job, and excluding all of them would run into the gap problem as you mentioned.
