Entrepreneurial-minded writer/researcher/trainer/event planner in the education and idea exchange industries.
I’ve been blogging about quality of life, careers, and my community from a Gen Y perspective for about a year at carleemallard.com, been a featured blogger on The Next Great Generation and Brazen Careerist since January 2010 and a freelance correspondent for local news site, Triangle.com.
As a passionate member of my local community I’m also a volunteer organizer of PechaKucha Nights Raleigh, a fast-paced idea-sharing event put on every 3 months featuring 10-15 local speakers and between 100-250 guests.
Since graduating with highest honors in Psychology & Geography from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2007 I’ve worked in education survey research for a large research & development nonprofit in RTP, gaining extensive experience in large-scale survey data collection and staff training.
I work in the Education Studies Division assisting senior staff in conducting large-scale data collection and data analysis for the following surveys: Survey of Graduate Students and Postdoctorates in Science and Engineering (GSS) - sponsored by the National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health and the Beginning Postsecondary Students (BPS) and High School Longitudinal Study (HSLS), both sponsored by the US Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics.

I assist with preparing data collection materials, mailings, and training materials; monitor data collection; and prepare reports on data analysis results. I'm also responsible for training field staff and call center staff, conducting telephone interviews with survey respondents, answering the help-desk line, and making outbound calls to survey respondents to clarify questions and/or concerns.
I work directly with the Sales & Marketing Director to define & implement a social media strategy for 11 LWP markets across the US (from Raleigh to Denver to Portland). I manage 11 Twitter & Facebook profiles, growing each community from ground zero.
I learned the photocopy machine inside and out from blowing up 11x17 color magazine spreads to emailing a scan straight to my desk!

When not making copies I created a wikipedia page for LISC, created a database of corporations and foundations as potential funding targets, monitored the company's & their initiatives' presence in the press, coordinated out-of-house communications projects with printers, took care of general office duties (including mailings and shipments), and attended & assisted at the 7th Annual New Partners for Smart Growth conference in Washington, DC.
