Cara Pavelko I work for United Way and we trying to get this film thing up and running. Any suggestions?

Aaron Bramley: I have many suggestions! We can have a phone call if you'd like, but we'll be getting resources up on our site soon.

Cara Pavelko I just watched the winning video of the non profit film awards on twitter yesterday. It was great! It's all about the stories.

Cara Pavelko Do you guys think that non profit executives are worth less than for profit executives?

Kevin S. Simpson: The disparity comes less from np execs than the funders who place inane limitations that business does not have to abide by.
Caitlin McCabe: that's really funny, I thought the exact same thing when I saw that. Whoever came up with "hey get her behind the bike" should be fired.

Cara Pavelko: Thing that bothered me most was how many times the reporter said..Mom Jeans! Her voice is terrible.

Cara Pavelko What do you think is the greatest thing about being a Gen Xer? For me, it's my cynicism. It has made me a realist.

I think Gen Y and the Millennials are known for their attitude of entitlement. I keep feeling the need to explain workplace ettiquete and common courtesy to some our young workers. On a positive note, they do all get along very well, and want to be friends with everyone they work with, which is a pleasant change from the usual workplace back-stabbing.

Xers in my view tend to see themselves (ourselves) as "on my own," oppose the concept of authority, and tend to have a few trusted friends/family who have really got their back. Whereas Yers are more laid back, tend to have a lot more friends, and also prefer more direction. Millennials to me are like Yers on technology steroids. And Gen Yers and Boomers tend to get along very well at work. (I like Bruce Tulgan's books on the generations at work, they are very insightful and useful.)

Cara Pavelko Do you guys see a change in the way non profits are operating? More results oriented? how does yours operate?

134 weeks ago from Nonprofiteers

: From my experience, Non-Profits are currently looking for opportunities for sustainability.

Colleen Dilenschneider Which is more beneficial: 5 yrs in 1 nonprofit involved in 1 area, or 5 yrs with 3 diff orgs in different areas? Would love your thoughts!

134 weeks ago from Nonprofiteers

Kevin S. Simpson: Depends on what your passion is. Many organizations like a person having a passion towards their area of expertise: kids, mental health etc
128 weeks ago
Sarah Hartley: I think it depends if you know what you want! If not, diversify. If you do, then work your way up in 1 organisation

Cara Pavelko This is really great! How many kids are hosted per summer? How are the families selected?

134 weeks ago from The Fresh Air Fund

The Fresh Air Fund: The amount of children hosted depends on the amount of hosts we get. We're still looking for hosts for August

Cara Pavelko: Ha! They got you @Dan, I knew you were a competitive player. Someone tell me how this game is compared to life?

Jessica Dickinson Goodman Is there a platform which is particularly effective for non-profits (fundraising...)? Mine is using blogspot, personally I use wordpress...

135 weeks ago from genXconnect members

Cara Pavelko I am having a hard time dealing with the non profit politics! How do you all fight that beast?

137 weeks ago from Nonprofiteers

Cara Pavelko: The problem is having to constantly be sensitive to political connections before I make any moves. I get it-but it's disheartening!
Allison Jones: Do you mean literal politics (like dealing with politicians) or office politics or both?

Zohra O'Doherty: If you're going to spend $50 on a knock off Vuitton, you might as well spend it on something chic from Topshop. Less tacky, more classy.
