Retail has always been a part time job for me. I started as a cashier, shelf stocker, and display setter upper at Marshalls in South Portland, Maine. In April 2009, I transfered to the TJ Maxx in San Francisco, California, where I currently serve as Customer Service Coordinator. My responsibilities include making sure customers leave the store happy, setting the break schedule for all associates, and opening and closing the cash registers for the day.
Traveling all over Maine, New Hampshire, and beyond for the better part of 3 years was an amazing experience. I put together the only broadcast team from Maine that traveled to President Obama's Inauguration in Washington D.C. to cover it live. I stood in the driveway of the Bush family compound in Kennebunkport, Maine, with both Presidents Bush and French President Nicholas Sarkozy. I interviewed Vice President Joe Biden on issues ranging from health care to the economy. I also served as the CBS Radio News National Correspondent when Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts suffered a seizure at his Maine vacation home. Politics aside, I have covered major court cases, crime, environmental issues, business and charity events.
I was also responsible for writing, editing, and producing all of my own stories and newscasts. I have anchored all shifts for a variety of different radio formats, sometimes on a moments notice.
I was part of a 2 person team that brought the fine art of traffic reporting to Portland, Maine. We started from scratch, building a network of contacts within various state and local transportation agencies, police, and fire departments. We also set up a telephone hotline to help gather information from commuters, lobbied for multiple emergency response scanners, and established an online presence through e-mail and social networking websites.
I was responsible for anchoring the evening news Monday-Friday and Saturday afternoon. I conducted phone interviews, wrote all of my own stories, and produced each bi-hourly newscast.
Before my full time stint at Portland Radio Group I worked as an overnight DJ for an AC station. I also produced live sports like NASCAR, NFL, and MLB and political events.
