TOP IDEA: Brandy Brown Research has taught me that chasing your motivation could lead to happiness - so far my limited life experience backs that idea up. So I'm on a quest to figure out my motivations, know myself, and change my life. http://paintandsoul.blogspot.com/2010/04/chasing-your-motivation-could-l...

TOP IDEA: Brandy Brown I am NONCONSUMPTIONARY - and an ex spelling bee champ who made up this word to represent my personal take on anti-consumerism. In today's world there is too much of everything - but what really worries me is our overconsumption of information. Overconsuming information often results in a paralysis of action and a complete lack of original thought. To me this is all about becoming a moderator of what you allow into your personal mental feed - but we have to learn just how to do that - together.

Rebecca Thorman Just read some interesting research about the science of commitment (http://nyti.ms/bMpCjV). The most interesting bits to me were when they talked about how scientists speculate that your level of commitment may depend on how much a partner enhances your life and broadens your horizons. They theorize that couples who explore new places and try new things will tap into feelings of self-expansion, lifting their level of commitment. Sounds like a ringing endorsement for power couples to me!

Here was my favorite part, "To measure this quality, couples are asked a series of questions: How much does your partner provide a source of exciting experiences? How much has knowing your partner made you a better person? How much do you see your partner as a way to expand your own capabilities?"

I used to say I wanted a symbiotic relationship - just because AP BIO II was my favorite class. Then I finally had one - and that to me tells me why this time I'm deeper in love than I have ever been, happier, feel like a better person who is more productive than I have ever been before, and am more willing to compromise etc. in this relationship. Because he does constantly expand my capabilities - and I know it, and I value that so very much I'd never want to give him up.

My favorite part of the article, but I couldn't fit it in my first comment was that couples who succeed in challenges together are more apt to stay committed. So the new stuff doesn't just have to be fun stuff like travel, but perhaps helping each other succeed in business which is why I thought it was relevant to the Power Couple network :)

Ryan Paugh Congratulations to everybody who is going to be graduating this Spring/Summer. If you could go back and do one thing differently what would it be? I'm 4 years out, but if I could go back to Penn State I would have listened to my J-School professor and started a blog. It would have been great if I discovered the greatness of blogging earlier in my life. I probably could have avoided some of the mistakes I made early in my career.

Then I wouldn't have needed a gap year between undergrad and grad school to get to the awesome place I'm at today. People who really love what they do are always happy to talk to you about it - I have no idea why I didn't take more advantage of that fact when I really wanted to match myself to my job.

Jim Parker If you list a URL in your resume, which is it and why do you choose to share that link with potential employers? (BrazenCareerist URL, Linkedin, Twitter handle, your personal blog or dotcom, etc.) Sharing your Linkedin URL would be redundant, much like leaving a voicemail with your phone number... right? I'm interested to hear the community's thoughts. Thank you.

The contact page has a lot of my networks as well on it... but I partially do that because I've gotten compliments on my site before from potential employers and because I have such a common name googling me doesn't get you to me until around page 25.

However, I will say that as redundant as it may seem, most people who have included a URL on their resume have pointed to their LinkedIn profile. I also see the LinkedIn URL regularly on business cards these days, far more frequently than I see a Twitter handle, strangely enough. The LinkedIn URL may not be as redundant as you think, though, as long as you've got your blog, recent Twitter updates, and endorsements properly set up. Those are things I would not normally see on a resume.

TOP IDEA: Louis Gray Rapid consumption and comprehension of content is power. With more information coming at us from more places at an ever-increasing rate, we must learn to not only consume from multiple places simultaneously, but also improve our filters to find the best content and most relevant information. We should not be unafraid to stop bad habits or time wasting activity, to unsubscribe from off-topic sites, or exchange one practice for another.

Amani Roberts: Well said Louis. I agree. Stoping bad habits is the most difficult but not impossible.

Zack Zaban Does anyone have tips on successfully taking a break from social media? This question sounds strange, but I find that the only way I can limit my interaction with others in the online world is to simply go to a location where I cannot get Internet.

I tend to have e-mail, RSS, and Twitter applications running whenever I'm at my computer, and seeing icons with numbers or notification overlays everywhere was a bit distracting. So I turned them all off. It's not really a break from social media, but at least I'm not constantly reminded that I'm connected - letting me get other work done online but still allowing me to switch gears if I want to.

I just try to stay off the computer if at all possible. It's helped a lot with achieving some balance.

As a rule of thumb, I try to send an email thanks for people I've networked with, gotten advice from, met for coffee, etc. For employment, it's a nice touch and shows you went to some trouble to send a hand written note. Analog notes just show a more personal touch!
