Jenna Tollerson Does anyone know what Facebook module Brazen Careerist is using? Is it a contrib module from Drupal.org or something homegrown? (Apologies if this has been answered previously).

That is a great writeup. I asked because I have used Facebook Connect in a project and found it to be clunkier than I expected. The secret sauce must really be in the custom code. Brazen is such a great example of what can be done with Drupal!

Kat Argonza Barefoot running, anyone ever tried it? I bought the Vibram five finger shoe and I've loved it! I had knee surgery a year ago, and I've been troubled with knee pain (it's all in my head, really) when I run. After training in these shoes, I've noticed my calves developing and no joint pain.

Shoes that are too cushioned and correct for over/under pronation actually make the stabilizer muscles even weaker. Bigger cushioned shoes also allow for poor running technique - this causes over-striding and heel crashing (landing on our heels instead of the ball of the foot).

Dont have to go crazy on buying expensive footwear - just get a pair that has a thin sole (i like Onitsuka's) and focus on stepping under your hip when you jog.

Sid: Planning on purchasing some Vibram FiveFinger KoS's soon. Heard the physical benefits are outstanding!

I found this quote especially interesting:

"The critical thing about the design process is to identify your scarcest resource. Despite what you may think, that very often is not money. For example, in a NASA moon shot, money is abundant but lightness is scarce; every ounce of weight requires tons of material below. On the design of a beach vacation home, the limitation may be your ocean-front footage. You have to make sure your whole team understands what scarce resource you’re optimizing."

Thoughts?

I'd love to be there. Crazy thing is that there are numerous events around that time. DrupalCon CPH is right up against that, and DrupalCamp BOONE in NC and DrupalCamp Dallas at OpenCamp is also the same weekend! When I was at DrupalCamp CO 1month ago the Chicago Camp was the same weekend. When I was at DrupalCamp WI last week the NY City Camp was the same weekend!
Whoa!! Who knew that years down the road that we'd have major events stacked on top each other!
I'll be in Dallas speaking at http://openca.mp and the Dallas Camp.
I'm sure your camp will be awesome and I certainly hope I have no conflicts next year!

Ryan Healy Great article from Tech Crunch on Wisconsin Start-Ups. The author specifically talks about Madison based start-ups. We're definitely an up and coming hub for entrepreneurship, but do you guys think Madison will ever be able to compete with some of the other up and comers like Boulder, Austin and Chicago when it comes to tech start ups specifically? http://techcrunch.com/2010/07/24/wisconsin-land-of-beer-cheese-and-start...

I'm spoiled as I've grown up on the beach in South FL and I've worked with numerous start ups aiding in hiring. People are far more likely to move to California, FL, and TX than anywhere else based on just the weather factor. Certainly, I can see young folks moving there for a few years, but...I definitely would not use the locale as a 'selling point'. Especially when the other big 'locales' for start ups (in my opinion) offer more in terms of not just weather, but culture and future connections. In NY, you have every museum, Broadway, free concerts with huge stars, etc. On the downside (personally), it's a bit busy for me...but FL and CA - perfect weather year round and on the beach...I believe that's enticing. What I DO think Madison, Boulder, and Austin do have a HUGE advantage is that they are "college towns", so there is a lot of entrepreneurial and ambitious talent.

Jenn Jackson I recently signed up for the Eat Local Challenge that the Willy Street Coop is coordinating. They are providing participants with great coupons, recipes and resources. The challenge runs from 8/15-9/15 and has several options for different levels of commitment to eating local. It's free! http://www.willystreet.coop/eat_local_challenge_pledge My biggest challenges are avocados and citrus, any suggestions for substitutions? I've been playing around with seaberries to get the citrus zing.

Ryan Paugh Anybody check out Graze yet for lunch or dinner? I highly recommend it. The food was great and easy to share w/ a small group. Think Wisconsin Tapas. The best part is that it was really cheap! The only downfall in my opinion is that they needed a bigger tap list. Especially if they're going to market themselves as a gastropub.

Ryan Paugh Are you making some time during the 4th of July weekend to relax? Catch up with family and friends? Not work? The 4th is always that time during the summer when I realize that I've been moving too fast and I need to slow down. Go outside and enjoy yourself this weekend. Hang out with the people that are important to you. The work will still be there next week. Happy 4th of July!
