Cameron Plommer As a big fan of the 37 Signals approach to running a business, I wonder if their principles could be applied to non-profits. Specifically that companies should build a product or service, charge money and make profit, while not taking VC money. Should more non-profits try to be social enterprises?

Marian Schembari What do you guys think about the effectiveness of buying your own domain name? I shelled out the dough but I've seen a lot of SUPER successful blogs with url's with blogspot or wordpress in the ink. Thoughts?

Switching to google analytics was really useful, because then I knew how much time people were spending on my site on average and what the bounce rate was. I also got better feedback about what search queries and websites were driving traffic. Simple changes really improved my bounce rate, too.

Cameron Plommer Who benefits from a blog more: the blogger or the blog reader?

I use it as a way to vent, share thoughts and emotions- and just speak to whoever wants to listen- even if it's just me. My other blog was designed to provide information on my career subject- nonprofit management. With that blog I hope that the public will benefit from what ever tips or information I have to share. So, to answer your amazing question with a subpar response, I guess it depends!

For me, my blog is cathartic. I write it to stop myself feeling bad. I don't yet understand why I feel bad if I don't write, but I do know I feel great when I've put out a post, so I'll keep doing it.

Also - if you're on FB/ twitter, follow Kwanza Hall. He is a City Council member who is absolutely awesome at using social media and will communicate tons of events/opportunities/local happenings that way.

Blake Carson Poston Hello- I am a graduate student at the University of Central Florida pursuing a Masters in Nonprofit Management. Seeking to parlay that degree into a consulting position for nonprofit orgs.

Michael Dvorscak: Although, non-profits are consistently in need of consulting of type or another. Ironically they can't afford it. At least that is my experience.

Blake Carson Poston Hi Nonprofiteers! I am new to the scene and looking to network with like minded individuals. I have just embarked on my own 501(3)(c) while also looking for work in the Atlanta area as a nonprofit consultant- or development specialist. Looking forward to chatting with you all.

Akhila Kolisetty Hi everyone! I'm a senior and will be graduating in June. How do you recommend getting your foot through the door for non-profit jobs? There don't seem to be too many entry level jobs in the sector! I've been scouring idealist.org and it's a great resource, but are there any better ways to find out about potential entry-level jobs where I could start working in June? ANY tips for an entry-level job search appreciated! Thanks!

I often see things on indeed.com and simplyhired.com (it's my job to search for jobs, basically) and if the nonprofit has a website they'll definitely post there first if they indeed post like Blake said. Getting to know people working in the area definitely helps. And if you're already in the area, volunteering is a Fantastic way to find out about other opportunities!

It will add to your resume-get your foot in the door, etc. I'd caution you to shoot for entry-level though. If you're passionate about non-profits-a specific cause would be better---download "Tribes" by Seth Godin and go for it! Shoot for the top and you'll land higher than if you shoot for the bottom!!!
