Those are good points, but I need to ask two important question. How do you balance those acts without being slave to them? How do the duties in your list factor into building a political presense in a large corporation?

1) I believe the list actually helps create balance
I haven't fully lived the list - but without having ever seen it, and having done pretty well navigating large companies, I realize most of these items are necessary to survive, thrive and advance.
2) Difference between reputation & political presence. Following the spirit of the list and delivering good results likely builds a solid reputation. A boost via politics often requires promotion by yourself & others to fan your flame. 123 weeks ago

If I can say that most if not all of my energy goes towards the former of those options, then I'd say it's a good job. Otherwise, I'm not interested. 123 weeks ago

Being that I've been in both worlds, the corporate world wants to track everything and analyze everything to the core. Analysis is good, but at times, there comes an point to where action should take place. Small businesses - most are focus on getting the job done and value added services are truly value added without to many additional fees. 117 weeks ago

I wouldn't have thought that the correlation between happiness at work and home would be so closely linked. I do understand that WE are the main reason for our own happiness, though I never quite made this connection to that fact. Great article. Thanks! 127 weeks ago

We spend years creating a meaningful and challenging career; we also need to create a meaningful life outside of it. I really appreciate this idea: Spend time exercising and with people you love. I've recently been doing this with friend-colleagues, and it's been rewarding. We challenge each other physically, and discuss big picture/personal challenges. 126 weeks ago

I'm looking to connect with other brand marketers to talk about retail. 115 weeks ago

Have you heard about Costco dropping Coke from its stores? What's your take? It's a big deal - but I say forget who wins & loses between Costco & Coke: instead think about what it can teach your brand about Retail Leverage http://bit.ly/4knEri

The problem is that the model has changed. It used to be that manufacturers made great and distinctive products and drove consumers to the store through TV advertising. And retailers sold the products. But retailers decided to start making products themselves and building their own brand. Manufacturers are starting to figure out that they don't really need to exist in a world of great private label manufacturing/branding and decreasing attention to TV. Hence the fighting. 131 weeks ago
