A large part of that may be due to my position as a manager, which is a much more time consuming job and stressful than it used to be. Additionally, Starbucks no longer attracts the talent it used to, and I feel that the management quality has been on a steady decline for the past few years.

@Becky, For the most part you are right, but web design and development seems to be a special case.

@Noel, I looked at it for my brother, but he's not really at the level you are looking for. I can certainly understand the desire for having someone with a proven track record, but I don't see how the degree fits in with having had time to learn skill sets and apply them. I was just wondering if there was thought put towards that particular requirement or if it was just an assumption on how people get relevant skills.

Depending on where you are in your career, even free help can seem like a drag on your time, though I also think it depends on what the help is. Negotiating tips, for example, can come in very handy for someone who hasn't done it in a while (or ever). Having someone to bounce strategies off of could also help a lot, based on their expertise. It's up to us to sift through the information we get, and no one source is the be-all and end-all. Is it?

I'd love to say that I produce good work every day. I come close most of the time, but I also think that good work is something that can't be forced. I might go through the motions one day for any number of reasons and another day be able to produce good work at a record pace depending upon my mood, the project that I'm working on, and other factors.
