Hey MoCo peeps- what opportunities are you aware of that are specific to MoCo for nonprofit networking? I'm active with YNPNdc, but would love to get some events, activities, and groups going here in MoCo- there are a huge number of orgs, charities, etc. here and I'm sure a lot of young nonprofit pros as well.

Welcome Ashley! Are you a native Montgomery Countian or new to town? Where'd you go to college, and what put you in the non-profit as opposed to the for-profit world? Too many questions? That's ok. Just wanted to welcome you to the network. Looking forward to building a Brazen presence here in MoCo. I'm from here: Peary HS graduate, '75. Yeah, back then. Started at UM, traveled all over the US before and after graduating with a BA in ed. from U of IA. Came back because it's home.

I am not native to MoCo, I'm originally from Bradenton, FL. I attended college at Hollins University, a women's college, in Roanoke, VA. I joined the non-profit world because I had experience in working in nonprofits via internships, and honestly, I find that it's a lot easier to get out of bed in the morning know that what I do drives social change, not just profits. Looking forward to contributing to the community here! 112 weeks ago

Hey all. I'm trying to find good a good PRM system. I've looked into Vocus and Cision, but they are a bit pricey. I was wondering if anyone knew of a good system that allows you to manage a lot of public relation contacts (bloggers, editors, tweeters, etc). Thanks so much!

After graduating, I found PR jobs hard to come by and even harder to get an interview for. PR firms seemed VERY difficult to get an in with, at least in Boston.
What are some tips that you find are useful for getting hired in PR? Do you see a future for people saying "screw it" to the ridiculous hiring process and just trying to be freelancers?

I'm very much in the same boat you're describing; a recent grad looking for an entry-level opportunity. Did you find any paid internships that have helped you build your experiences?
@Ashley That's a direction I'm starting to persue, but this year especially Non-profits are less willing to take risks with their program budgets; communication budgets invariably are the first area they cut, not leaving much room for new hires. 112 weeks ago

If you can work on something and have some deliverable at the end of the day or at the end of your term, then it's worth your time. Plus getting paid a little bit of money means it's more worth your time than retail. 112 weeks ago
