By stating your intention and seeing the possibility, you are on your way! Second, Juha's site is great for mulling over the considerations and Ash speaks well of some of the steps. Take time to figure out what you really want to be doing with your time on a daily basis, and then figure out what skills you have that can make that happen. If you need new skills, what are they? Location independence is a fabulous lifestyle, so keep the energy up and jump in!

SitePoint.com has recently run a PHP Live course which comes in the form of video tutorials and articles, with assignments/challenges. I've learnt quite a lot from it so far. They also publish the book PHP and MySQL on which the course is mostly based.
