I've been a reader my whole life, but for the last year I've shared my experiences reading with other readers around the world through my blog English Major's Junk Food. Through blogging I've discovered my passion for sharing books with people who love them and I would really like to make this my career. I am a junior at the University of Iowa but I want to work towards my goals right now.
Shrink-wrap and create enclosures for books as part of preservation process. Work independently and with one other assistant.
Assisted state archivists with processing a collection of former Governor materials. Entered death certificates into database for publishing online.
Created lesson plans for 2-3 students a semester. Met with students individually 2-3 times per week to work on reading and writing skills. Attended weekly workshops to improve tutoring skills.
Assisted full-time desk clerk with daily operations such as delivering mail, checking out keys, and processing paperwork. Worked alone for evening and overnight shifts to help the front desk run smoothly.
Read all nonfiction submissions and deliberate with other editors to decide what will be in the magazine. Edit chosen pieces for grammar and style. Assist with planning events such as readings and workshops over the course of the year. Run social media such as Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook.
