I was alike many of my peers in that I had no idea what I wanted to do upon graduation. I majored in Communications so I would not be pigeon-holed into a specific career path. As I was flying to one of my good friend’s college graduations, I purchased an issue of Fortune Magazine. After flipping through each page with little interest, I realized I could not relate to the content. It was then that the idea for PRO$PECTS was hatched. Over the course of the next three years, I developed a business plan, oversaw the creation of a prototype issue and met with some influential people in the publishing world. Unlike many of the business magazines published today, PRO$PECTS was to be the blueprint of success; featuring young businessmen and women and showcasing how they became successful.
PRO$PECTS came to an end in the summer of 2005 and I quickly realized that I needed a job. I found a position with a startup company doing Product Management. Unfortunately, the company went through multiple leaders in the year I was there and the Product Management team dissolved just three months into my employment. Apparently, I was respected enough to move to the Sales team where I received a quick lesson in Sales 101.
It was during this experience that I discovered the VCU Brandcenter. I was pleasantly surprised to find a school created for developing better talent in strategic development, innovative thinking and group collaboration. Two years later, the experience certainly exceeded my expectations. I have worked with many talented peers, have learned under even more talented professors and have built life-long relationships.
Recently graduated, I am ready to take on my next challenge as a Marketing Professional.
