Antoinette Wright Vanessa, I just completed my website which I am super excited about..when I am selling my paintings alot of people preferred to simply go to my website rather than stop and take a look at my paintings...so hopefully this will generate business with those who are "on the go!" To make a living from selling paintings you have to work HARD and have that hunger and it has paid off.

Do you wait for the right person to find the piece for them, or do you use staging and other sales tactics?

James Lettiere Antoinette: My experience ( albeit not exhaustive ) is that not-for-profit / for profit visual & performing arts entities are the natural places for specialists in Arts Marketing. Run of the mill corporations are not generally interested in the arts. James

Art Marketing is crucial in corporate America. There is an increased amount of corporations (large and small) who are partaking in the arts - creating branded scholarships, programs to directly benefit their consumers. Corporations are finally realizing that dialogue can happen off the corporate ladder and on the beat and path of the consumer’s threshold. Therefore, experts in Arts Marketing are needed to help design environments for the brand and consumer to interact.

I'm constantly bringing people of diverse talents together to collaborate and learn from each other. We need more Arts Marketing (all arts, visual, performing, literary, etc) integrated into business and major corporations.

There are plenty of arts organizations that have marketing positions - the issue is whether the pay will meet your needs. Example: The Chapman Cultural Center in Spartanburg is home to the managing group and 8 onsite and 1 remote nonprofits (names are shortened): Ballet, Repertory Co (opera), Historical Assn, Science Center, Little Theatre, Music Foundation, Art Museum, Artists Guild and Artisan Center. Some have part timers.
