Masha Yudin But I am here, and I can provide a shortcut! No error, just try and see it working!

: Can I have some of Pirelli's Miracle Elixir with that?

Masha Yudin And how does one determines which is which?

142 weeks ago from Growing up Asperger's

: Trial and error, inconvenient though it is — error, mostly.
: I don't remember where this comes from, but "Good judgement comes from experience, which comes from bad judgement."

Masha Yudin why a person cannot modify his behavior to make his life easier? Is it because he is unable, or because he is unwilling?

142 weeks ago from Growing up Asperger's

: Most things can be changed, some are easier than others, and some things shouldn't have to.

Masha Yudin Here is a pattern - he complains of a difficulty with his classmates, I suggest smth - he explains to me why this would not work. I am stuck

142 weeks ago from Growing up Asperger's

: This is indeed a tough one, and he's only going to get better at it; though this pattern is by no means unique to aspies.
: You might argue that he's being unscientific; it isn't science if you don't try it.

Masha Yudin But this is interesting, that you cannot be convinced to change your behavior. But if you -think- it hurts you?

142 weeks ago from Growing up Asperger's

Masha Yudin He does know that other children think that he is weird, and he is concerned. Conversations are one-sided, and this is a problem, too.

142 weeks ago from Growing up Asperger's

: Finding people with similar interests is a problem I've never grown out of, but it gets easier as peers get older and begin to specialize.
: If everyone thinks your weird, just hang out with the people who think that's a good thing.

Focus on behaviors that can be real impediments: asking strangers for what he wants/needs (ordering food), being comfortable in crowds, etc.

142 weeks ago from Growing up Asperger's

: Another important one: knowing who to cooperate with (authority figures) and who not to (everyone else), and polite non-cooperation
142 weeks ago
Masha Yudin: Crowds are not a problem as far as I can see. He just ignores it ;)

Masha Yudin Mostly advices on how to behave as not to come across as "weird". Do I ask him not to "walk funny", or will this "stifle his creativity"?

142 weeks ago from Growing up Asperger's

: Coming across as "weird" becomes more advantageous in adolescence and adulthood, as long as he can carry a conversation.
: Eccentricity that children would insult can range from being impressive to mysterious to endearing in a well-adjusted adult.

Masha Yudin ..after giving some more thought to it I realized that my goal is not to discuss parenting at all. Living and working with Asperger's is it.

142 weeks ago from Growing up Asperger's

Masha Yudin Jeremy, my goals do not have to define what this group is used for. I hope it can be useful in more than one way.

142 weeks ago from Growing up Asperger's

: Agreed; but it will be disappointing if it isn't useful for at least your goals.

What does going back in time have to do uniquely with Asperger's?

143 weeks ago from Growing up Asperger's

: So you're goal for this group is to discuss parenting Asperger's, rather than living and working with it?
: What help does this child need, if saying so doesn't disclose individually identifiable health information?
