Ryan Paugh Would you take a salary cut for a more fulfilling job than you have right now? How much does salary impact your career transition decisions?

Definitely opened my eyes not only on my career but on the overall career development space, massive shifts in the IT industry, etc. As for fulfillment itself, I have typically chased the more fulfilling job over the higher-paying one, but only to a point! When it comes down to weighing multiple offers against each other, eventually salary differences will potential job fulfillment for me.

Once it worked out great, and got me on my current career track. The other time it was a dead end, so I left quickly but managed to swing getting the business head as my top job reference. Now that I have kids I'm not so adventurous, but also feel like I'm in a good place in my career, so not feeling the need to take the risk anyway.

Regina Twine Is it bad that I want to beat up everyone that was talking crap about Penelope in the chat today? Mainly ones that said bad things and didn't even know who she was or read her blog :(

Patrick Pho: Ya I think those that were angry were very ungrateful of the opportunity they were presented.

Emily Jasper: I was going to say, thanks Penelope for the opportunity. It was great, and if only more people could see it that way!

Penelope Trunk I have been seeing lots of press recently about how job hoppers are bad. Mostly, I think these people are delusional because everyone is job hopping so it's a moot point whether it is good or bad. (But also, i really think it's good for everyone.) That said, I wonder, what tactics do you guys use when an employer challenges the number of jobs you've had? What works?

Cameron Plommer What did you wish you were taught in school or college taht you had to figure out by yourself? What did school miss, that you have to make up for by learning on your own or reading "personal development" books/blogs. Coming into College I felt the same way about studying. I didn't have to do it H.S. so I did not know how once I hit the college scene. I'm thankful for my freshman seminar class where I was asked, "Does anyone have any questions before we end our 4 week session?" I raised my hand and humbly admitted that I did not know how to study. That made a huge difference, as they connected me to all kinds of resources.

I've moved from balance to balancing. The difference for me has been putting the energy where it's needed, when it's needed. I have a pretty cool program called, "Your Essence" that assist with recovery of values so you can make better decisions and have a platform to create goals. Send me a personal message if you would like me to email you something that may be helpful.

Penelope Trunk I'm redesigning my blog -- thinking about all the stuff that should be there that isn't there. I was wondering if you have ideas. Examples: The categories I have are useless. But what would be useful to you? Or, I was thinking there should be an Asperger's discussion board, but maybe it would just be a bunch of people with no discussion skills. Hahaha. Any other thoughts? Sidenote: I notice that figuring out the content of one's blog feels a lot like figuring out who you want to be.

It has "About this", "About BC" and "P's Guide to" if you're on one of those pages you have to fish around to find your way back to the actual blog. Consider adding an option on that menu bar to the blog itself. And, after you leave the home page there is no navag back. I wanted to check out your speaking and couldn't find my way back easily once I was in.

Penelope Trunk Wow. I'm gone for half a day, and look what happens. Okay. Look. I think the time of dividing the world into people who stay home with their kids and people who work is just totally over. First of all, only the very rich have the luxury of not having to do one of each at some point in their life. Second, the world is not so simple that there is a good and bad way to run life. We would all be in great shape if the world were this simple. We could just pick good.

I'm hopeful that we're in the beginning stages of creating a system that nurtures all the different kinds of 'work' we do. I really want to see more family-friendly policies in place for women AND especially men so we can have equal chances to contribute our talents and passions professionally and personally. E.g. men can take time off to care for their kids, women can run for office.

Penelope Trunk Warning. I'm about to do a very bad personal branding move. Do not try this at home.... I'm so sad today that I can't think straight. And I can't get any work done. But then I thought, well, maybe if I were chatting in my group then that would 1. distract me from being sad and 2. count as me working, since really, on some level, it is my job to be doing this group. I mean, even when we are talking about Lance's (questionable) dating tactics, it still counts as work for me. Is anyone there?

I feel that what Ruins a lot of relationships Is smothering

It's You & I, and You & I that's all

Familiarity Can/Does Breed contempt

The Best policy Is to Each have time with Your own friends

as well as with each other

Hmmm... sounds like a Plan :-)

I find if work is busy it distracts me (thank god), but then smthing happens &I lose my shit. Week after week, though, I stay longer, get more done, &enjoy it more. I am so thankful my workplace is flexible enough that if I leave at 2pm, no-one bats an eye.

Lance Ok, you people were right. I invited her for dinner but she said no-go, we're doing drinks at a local joint. She did say she was impressed that I cook. For the record, I think it's lame that women won't come over for dinner on a first date. And don't give me that safety crap. If you want to get to know someone, you break bread with them.

Men Can Stop Rape is an excellent organization doing just that.

"Men Can Stop Rape mobilizes male youth to prevent men's violence against women. We build young men's capacity to challenge harmful aspects of traditional masculinity, to value alternative visions of male strength, and to embrace their vital role as allies with women and girls in fostering healthy relationships and gender equity."

I don't think Lance meant to be offensive or insensitive, but its important to address comments about rape/safety that negate the seriousness of the issue. As Amy said it would serve *you* well to respect other people's personal choices when it comes to their boundaries and safety.

Sarah McClellan-Brandt I wasn't saying that making dinner is psycho...just saying that inviting her to your house for a first date could be construed that way. If she doesn't know you she may not be comfortable not being in public until there's some trust. If you are already friends or have known each other for awhile then she may be ok with it.
