Andrew Parkes Hey guys, I would love your input on this: Is a 25-35 year old guy too old to join a fraternity? http://www.successcoachingformen.com/2010/02/is-a-25-35-year-old-guy-too...

118 weeks ago from Young Professional Men (YPM)

Jake LaCaze: Fraternity, career support group, network -- whatever you want to call it, it's a good idea.

: What are your reason for joining? What goals, if any will you have achieved if you join? Can you achieve what you want without this fraternity?

It's tough being in Wisconsin when most of my family lives on the East Coast. I'm working towards a work life that allows me to spend less time in the office and more time working remotely.

I have moved closer to the people most important to me but it hasn't been the best for my career. I would like to find a position that would allow me to work remotely/independent from my area with some travel to clients, offices, etc. That is the work-life balance I am looking/working towards. What are you doing to make this happen? Are you targeting certain companies? I would like to get some ideas/feedback.

Andrew Parkes Anyone in Vancouver want to organize a meet-up? Maybe in January?

Andrew Parkes Maybe a good way to start off is this: - at what age did you first make $100K? - what one tip could you offer others looking to do the same?

In addition to what Ryan mentioned, I think there should be more discussion on issues facing professional men in general. For example, the disappearance of the professional male in the workforce at least in the US. Disappearance may be a little bit of an exaggeration, but statistically the percentage of male professionals has been decreasing.

JR Moreau Do you think that men's seemingly natural ability to suck up what's bothering them hinder them from real happiness and success in life sometimes? Or, does this span both sexes pretty evenly?

Guys tend to interpret that as ...MoreYeah, I think it's considered losing face to step back and take some time to de-compress or simply take a break. Guys tend to interpret that as weakness rather than part of the process of coming up with better solutions and perspectives on a problem. Byron and Travis, I agree with you that these tendencies manifest themselves in self-destructive habits down the road (alcoholism, violence, depression, etc).

Probably a better idea to face the root issues now rather than pay dearly later.

As for whether absorbing issues has a negative impact on happiness and success, I would say yes it can. Troubles at work/school or at home can are not good for either one. I can personally attest to the negative impact of something being amiss in either one.

Andrew Parkes My key time-mgt tip is to get up early and be intentional about how I spend the first 2 hours of my day. How do you spend this time?

137 weeks ago from Productivity & Time-Management

Meghan Skiff: Andrew, your words "Be Intentional" are key. It is far too easy to spend time passively. I try to focus on 5 daily priorities and go forward
136 weeks ago
Claire Veuthey: Meghan, Andrew, I agree: I try to work on important (vs urgent) things for the 1st hour of the day. Hard not to get sidetracked by email tho

Bryon Ownby: Any takers out there on this? Sounds like a great idea for those who are or have the entrepreneurial spirit.

Ryan Healy What's the most common career question you guys get from new college grads?

143 weeks ago from Ask A Coach

Regina Twine: @Sarah Beckley What do you mean reset? I feel like I'm so far behind my peers since I'm not even close to working in my field & I'm worried

Sarah Beckley: @Regina Reset means dial back expectations to match reality. Dream big, but understand what can realistically be achieved in a year or 5.
