I just created a Web site through pair Networks. I am trying to upload FTP files and they are uploaded on the pair site, but nothing new has happened when I type in my domain name. Any suggestions? What am I missing?
Ashley Jones:
I registered my domain with pair. I'm not sure what "point at my account" means...sorry. I will e-mail pair and see what I get. Thanks! 120 weeks ago

Did you upload / FTP the files in to the proper directory / folder? It's likely called htdocs, public_html, or www. 119 weeks ago

Hello! I need some insight. I am helping a friend start a Web site for their construction company...starting from scratch. We are going to use GoDaddy.com for the domain name, do you know if they give you an fttp: site to upload files to? I have never used it or made a Web site outside of my Web development classes. Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated!! Thank you in advance!

They tend to lag a bit behind in adding newer versions of server technologies but you can't beat 5 bucks a mo for their economy hosting both (linux and windows). 117 weeks ago

Hey freelancers. I'm a web developer, but this question seems applicable across the board...
What type of payment terms do you usually offer when invoicing clients? I've been using Net 7 (must be paid in 7 days), but a client recently asked for Net 30. Should I have expected this? Any input is greatly appreciated!

All of our contractors bill us 30 day net (which doesn't always mean that we wait 30 days to pay them though). When I was a freelancer back in the early days, I would request a deposit to start (typically 50%), or if it was a longer term project and couldn't finance the project myself, I would create milestones and request payment along the way. This would help offset waiting for the final payment, which would be 30 day net (or longer). 121 weeks ago

Everything I've read says to have them pay a portion of the payment up front and then the rest once the project is complete - I've always followed this model. I'm actually surprised so many people on here say they do it differently! 121 weeks ago

I blog because it helps me refine my views in a way that thinking or talking about them more amorphously doesn't; because it pushes me to improve the style and concision of my writing; and because it forces me to really examine my beliefs, articulate them, and then to stand behind them. It's definitely made me more assertive and unafraid to state opinions. 122 weeks ago

I thought folks here might be interested in a recent blog post I wrote, "Personal branding for introverts": http://andrew.hedges.name/blog/2009/11/18/personal-branding-for-introverts
My personal brand is about reliably delivering cutting edge software solutions for the mobile web. I'd love feedback from the group about how my online presence does or does not reinforce what I'm trying to convey. Thanks!
