Anyone know any intro to anthropology books for people who just want to learn a little? Other than Anthropology for Dummies, most my searches come up with expensive text books...
Andrea E. Kruse: Emily and others, here are some more books, that give a good first dive into it. Most anthropology and archaeology books to get the full out of it ...MoreEmily and others, here are some more books, that give a good first dive into it. Most anthropology and archaeology books to get the full out of it and really understand all the means, you would need a class or at least have taken some, beacuse some anthropologist don't know how to write at all!
Some of my top ones that I loved are this: If you have a place or culture, let me know and I can help pick some out since I have read a lot.
Nisa: The Life and Words of a !Kung Woman
by Marjorie Shostak (Great book, a must and first read for all anthro majors)
Guests of the Sheik: An Ethnography of an Iraqi Village
by Elizabeth Warnock Fernea (older, but still very good, and since the whole war and news will help give some good background on it all)
Warrior Women: An Archaeologist's Search for History's Hidden Heroines by Jeannine Davis-Kimball (good archaeology one, just read it)
In Search of Respect: Selling Crack in El Barrio
by Philippe I. Bourgois (Drugs and New York, a great read and if you like NYC, a must read and easy)
Death Without Weeping: The Violence of Everyday Life in Brazil
by Nancy Scheper-Hughes (note- sad and can be hard to read at times; but she is one of the best writes in anthropology out there)
Hope this helps, most of these also you should be able to get at the library as well.

Hey Travel addicts! I'm new to this also so I thought you all looked friendly to start here! I was wondering if any of you have been to Albania, Dubrovnik, Sarajevo, Zagreb, or Budapest? I'm travel at the end of the April and wonder if any of you have suggestions!
