Brett Kunsch The holidays are upon us, but does the stress have to be? I'm trying to follow Suze Orman's advice: "People first, then money, then things." http://bit.ly/b6lKQ6 How are you all dealing with the stress of gift/food/travel purchasing and party-going coupled with the fear of debt and lack of time?

No gifts required unless it's something you feel we absolutely have to have or try like a food. The biggest gift that we ask is 1/2 hr to an hour of one on one time to just talk with each person.

Frankly I prefer not to get any gifts and that includes gasp... "jewelry" which used to be a favorite of mine.

That 1/2 hour to an hour you could spend with someone enjoying a cup of cocoa, you instead spend finding a gift they'll forget about in a month. I'll forgo whatever gift it is for some time with my favorite people.

Food, drink, music, and games is a cherished experience. And it's low on the stress meter (unless you have a family feud, as @JRandom warns).

Mehul Kar Question: I am the only person managing a new online community (CollegeDesis). What is your opinion on singular vs. plural pronoun usage? I want to develop the community into larger than myself, so I tend to think that the brand is plural. But then I get personal questions like this: http://bit.ly/kgkv6i. I don't want to admit that it's one person for fear of losing reputation or credibility. But I don't want to lie or ignore these questions either. What should I do??

However, it is not a big company it only has 6 employees and since I am moving towards my final two months they thought it would be interesting for me to have a more important task, such as finding new clients. First of all, I am trying to make them improve their website and I want to bring the company on social medias as LinkedIn and Facebook. In your opinion do you think this is a good start to attract new clients?

Hi Fredrico, I'm doing something similar for a company where I work with a decent small design team.
I would say setting up LinkedIn/Facebook/Twitter accounts would be just one way people can find you, unless you're incredibly lucky that wont grow your client base on its own. There's a whole heap of streams you can look at to grow your client base, but Social Media is about being contactable.

Unless you're creating a viral campaign, those channels alone wont sustain a biz dev effort; try networking at some events, see who you meet? Getting new clients is a very energy-intensive process in the mains - keeping a client and showing them where else you can help their business is much more powerful.

Ryan Paugh I'm so tired of listening to people bitch about Generation Y. This morning I started reading yet another Gen-Y narcissism piece (http://bit.ly/b8lXO5) written by Andrew McAfee. Gag. The thing is, I agree with what he's saying. What really bugs me is that we view things like narcissism as if it's a generational phenomenon when it's clearly a bigger issue. To be fair, the author says he's sick of narcissists young and old (I am too) but the focus is on Gen Y instead of on the bigger picture.

You've heard the term "same shit different day" well it's the same from generation to generation. People don't change.. You'll always have the older generations shaking their fists and screaming those damn kids when in retrospect when they were younger there were old bastards screaming the same thing at them. Seriously, I'm tired of all the Gen Y talk... Seems to me like a smokescreen for what the real issue is, and that's an older generation who refuses to realize that if they are going to stay relevant they are going to have to learn some new tricks.

Anastasia Ashman Hey all..I'm a writer/producer of cultural entertainment, not a designer or illustrator. I'm thinking of converting a screenplay into a graphic novel -- for iPhone (or web...maybe print later?) Looking for an illustrator. (Compensation negotiable.) Story is a Midnight Run/Long Kiss Goodnight kind of actioner with starcrossed lovers, who also happen to be mercenaries and English scholars, and it's adapted from a novel. Very tight and polished script. Thanks for ideas, suggestions.

Anastasia Ashman happy new year all, i'm an expat cultural producer based in Istanbul. just came across this article today which calls personal branding into question. take a look. authentic voice vs. personal branding: battle of social presentation philosophies http://bit.ly/50dv2u the gist: personal branding asks you to focus on your outer sales appeal rather than learning to express who you fundamentally are.

(article: http://bit.ly/5nl9EU) It's one way to reclaim your authentic voice.
