Mehul Kar According to Ayurveda (ancient Indian texts addressing health and wholeness), the day is divided into 2 cycles, an AM and a PM cycle. Each cycle is further divided into 3 parts during which certain qualities are predominant. 2 am/pm to 6 am/pm is Vata time. Vata qualities are: quick, cool, alert, agile, etc. 6 am/pm to 10 am/pm is Kapha time. Kapha qualities are: solid, heavy, slow, cold, etc. 10 am/pm to 2 pm /am is Pitta time. Pitta qualities are: hot, sharp, etc.

I have not read that book Barbara, but I have heard about it.
I'm generally wary of books about this sort of stuff, because natural living is more of a personal experience than a science.

Barbara Saunders: I recommend the book only because it provides a great summary - and the first exposure I had - to exactly the information you posted.

Jenna Langer I'm going to attend the Mashable MashMeet San Francisco this Thursday, May 20th. It's a free open networking event after Google's I/O conference. Any Brazen Careerists want to meet up? I'm new to the SF social media scene and I'm ready to start attending some events! It would be great to meet others in the area. It should be fun! http://mashmeetsf.eventbrite.com/

Definitely opened my eyes not only on my career but on the overall career development space, massive shifts in the IT industry, etc. As for fulfillment itself, I have typically chased the more fulfilling job over the higher-paying one, but only to a point! When it comes down to weighing multiple offers against each other, eventually salary differences will potential job fulfillment for me.

Once it worked out great, and got me on my current career track. The other time it was a dead end, so I left quickly but managed to swing getting the business head as my top job reference. Now that I have kids I'm not so adventurous, but also feel like I'm in a good place in my career, so not feeling the need to take the risk anyway.

Alyea Sandovar @alyeasandovar Would love to meet people in the SF Bay Area. What do I do? At the moment a mental health consultant. But really, I consider myself a fixer and a connector. If something is not working between people, I come in and help. If the processes are work are slowing you down, I come in and help. If you need help to run a business, I come in and help. If you can't find a job, I come in and help. Anything that supports human development and evolution in this world, I come in and help!

Ellen A. Feldman I see this topic below but I thought I'd create another post. I had an interview this week, & when asked my weakness said that I could be shy but this does not mean I'm not confident. She told me I did come across as being a little reserved and shy, and I needed to brag about myself more. I felt like I bragged about myself quite a bit. She even told my references I came across as being reserved or shy and asked did that affect my performance? My question is: WHAT is wrong with being reserved?

Oh, many will say that to be so means you will get eaten up in the business world, and that they only way to succeed is to change who you are. I don't buy that wholesale. I think we have to work on some things to succeed in some ways. But the notion that quieter people cannot succeed anywhere is in my view an unfortunate myth. (I blog about this stuff all the time...you may identify with some of the things I say there.)

I notice that while I am shy in new situations, once I get used to it, I am very friendly. One issue is that the American culture is very extroverted, so people seem to value extroversion and not introversion. What I have learned for myself is that I do better in jobs that allow me to just be me, where my "reserved" way is seen as valuable not as an obstacle. So my question is more about the person who interviewed you and the organization-why would she think that someone who was extroverted would excel more at that job?

There is not much to tell. I am 50, self employed, and working on a Ph.D., which is going very slow at the moment. I have known for a long time that I am an INFJ. Like Scott, however, I am close to the line with the J so it changes to P occasionally. It depends on what skill set life is requiring me to use at any particular moment. I joined because it looked like and interesting group to be a part of.

I am 37 years old, and live in Orlando FL.

Abigael Escobal Hi INFJs! Recently I had an interview that I thought I did well in but ended up not getting the job, which was disappointing. My fiance suggested that maybe I wasn't as outgoing, even though I had full confidence in what I said. How do you handle interviews as an INFJ? Do you care to share any tips? Do you fake outgoing-ness?

I am also pretty comfortable with kids considering that I have been a substitute teacher since 2007. I just felt that if I was more "bubbly" that maybe I would have gotten a chance.

Sometimes jobs already have someone in mind for the position and interview everyone to show due diligence. For example, they may have hired a teacher assistant that was already working in the school. So if you prepared for the interview, felt you did well and you were personable, then you were successful! Even if the outcome was not the expected.

Alyea Sandovar Wow, its so great to have this discussion. Feels like I am talking to my peers. I too have a way of "knowing" what is happening in the room, what people are feeling, and I get a sense of the overall picture. Not good with details either. I integrate information through my senses. And there are not too many jobs that can actually utilize our way of being. It's so great to connect with others in this way!

Its not just knowing what people are feeling and being able to engage with them but I also get a sense of their history. I can look at someone's face and just know whether they have had a hard life, what kinds of things they might struggle with, who they are, who they pretend to be, why they act the way they do...Its quite uncanny and I think this type of observing is common to INFJs

Thanks Abigael for that great question-what about, how does being INFJ affect you at work? Does it affects what careers you choose or do you feel it simply affects how you do work? Mallory touched on it, but would love to hear from others too!
