Alyea Sandovar is originally from Colombia, South America. She immigrated to the States as a teenager. She has a Bachelor's degree in Public Relations and a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology. She has had many careers including working as a consultant, an academic advisor, a psychotherapist, a nanny, and a small business administrator. She loves traveling and feels most at home in her native Colombia. She is currently working toward her PhD and loves all things existential. She lives in CA.
Contributed to the design for prenatal and perinatal psychology of a new three year curriculum for WASC. Serve as both an academic student advisor and counselor to students in the department. Support students in academic planning and working toward graduation requirements including: understanding course offerings, curricular sequence and feedback on Master thesis.
Provided one-on-one counseling and case management to parent’s with depression, to pregnant mothers, to parents having attachment or behavior difficulties with their children and to families with children with developmental delays. Administered psychosocial assessments as appropriate. Created a curriculum for an infant parent group and led the first infant-parent therapy group in the agency in the Fall of 2006. Created and administered specialized training at the agency for volunteers and trainees on how to work with infants, newborns and pregnancy. Co-created and co-lead an art therapy group for pregnant mothers that incorporated self-regulation, evaluation of childhood histories and parenting beliefs, advocating for choice during the birth, and exploration of feelings about pregnancy and becoming a parent. Conducted training on principles of ‘Safe from the Start” and the impact of trauma on the brain to immigrant parent farmers in the Santa Maria school system.
Responsible for management and coordination of business operations including: management of client relations, translator and interpreter contracting, development and maintenance of an electronic accounting system, and timely delivery of high quality translations. Planned, designed and developed marketing strategies and campaigns with CEO/President. Aided CEO/President in the creation of business strategies, goal setting, project management and project timelines. Represented organization at community events. Coordinated interpretation services for seminars and client corporations.
Led the design of new organizational structure for major oil companies including role/job definitions, team and organization designs, career path development and evaluation of training needs. Led and developed communication plans and materials to introduce new programs to all levels of an organization. Assisted in an organization readiness effort through the development of organization readiness materials. Trained and coached company employees overseas on the development of training materials. Supervised up to 10 subordinates and wrote performance evaluations. Acted as a liaison between software end-users and programmers. Wrote training materials for corporations implementing new computer systems. Taught financial software training courses for software end-users. Handled logistical planning of corporate training courses.
