Originally from the Washington DC area, I am a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison majoring in Political Science and Communications Arts. I have a strong interest in the South Asia region and will be studying abroad during the summer of 2010 in Pune, India where I will be taking a class and participating in an internship. I am pursuing a career in either international relations, teaching, or counseling. I really enjoy communicating with people one-on-one and in a group, as well as event planning, and have a love for learning about other cultures.
At UW-Madison, I am a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America, a pre-professional PR society that focuses on interacting with professionals and getting hands on PR and other media experience. As a member, I serve on the Board of Directors as Conference Director and am planning our chapter's mini-conference to take place in April. This year the conference focuses on branding, as well as other communications related careers.
I am also a member of the Student Leadership Program where I serve as a chair for the Leadership and Social Justice Committee (LSJC). LSJC plans events to further student's leadership through social justice and identity awareness on an individual level. LSJC raises student about the multiplicity of identities on campus and addresses issues of privilege and oppression that exist on campus.
Right now I am experimenting with new types of social media to form connections and gain experience in social media practices.
