I trained in television broadcasting at NAIT from 2000 - 2002 and went on to work at Global Television for five years.
I run an adult learn to sail program each summer at Lake Wabamun through the Northern Alberta Sailing College. I also sit on the board of directors to help develop and grow NASC.
I worked for a year in sales & catering at the Radisson Hotel in Edmonton setting up events and meetings for clients.
I am currently working on two diplomas at NAIT in marketing and management. I have completed the marketing diploma (Dec. '09) and will finish management (specializing in entrepreneurship) in Apr. '10.
My goal is to start my own business in the next five years.
Specialties:Detail management, making processes efficient, social media awareness, visioning & idea production, creativity
I run the Adult learn to sail program with the Northern Alberta Sailing College. Myself, along with three to four other instructors deliver courses on the basics of sailing to adults & teens every weekend throughout the summer.
I take care of all the administration, hiring, and curriculum for the program.
I work to grow NASC and its programs by sitting on the board of directors. My role is to provide instructor perspective on new ideas and initiatives and to introduce new marketing ideas which promote NASC to the public.
I organize a booth at the Boat and Sportsmens' Show each year. This entails calling on volunteers from local clubs and the sailing community to promote the sport of sailing in Alberta.
I began volunteering with the Sail Centre in 1997 and got on staff in 1999 after I received my instructor certification.
At times I have overseen sailing operations during weekend training, coached and advised new instructors, improved instructor-cadet communications while on the water, and supervised & tasked junior instructors.
I sold sailing, kayaking and canoeing merchandise. Ordering goods for customers and inventory was a routine responsibility. I also co-managed the store with two other employees.
Glenmore Sailboats laid off all staff in the fall of 2009 and closed the Edmonton location to help conserve resources through the winter.
Assisted clients with setting up meetings, social events, conferences, AGMs, and hotel rooms. Planned catering and liased with other departments to make client events happen.
Client relations was a large part of my responsibility within this position as I managed clients both large and small, along with their events from start to finish.
Scripting included timing each show down to the second and communicating counts for video, live weather, live hits, fonts, as well as in and out of the show. Pre-production preparations involved taking a fine tooth comb to all scripts, looking for grammatical, logical, or spelling errors. All timings for video were entered and all talent were provided with scripts.
I worked closely with the producer of the show to ensure flow, accuracy, and logistical sensibility when live. Making changes on the fly, second by second adjustments, and an ability to keep one eye on the live show with the other on upcoming items was a must while live on the air.
A script assistant's role is much like a quarterback's with many people relying on your every word to do their job successfully.
