Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

I applaud your candor and your commitment to improving your writing and the writing of others.

The additional piece of advice I offer is simple: proofread your text and then have someone else proofread it as well! Having read more of these essays than I care to admit, omitted words, misspellings that spell check will never catch (e.g., their and there; or to, two, too!), and sentences that do not make sense greatly detract from the main message of the essay.

TOP IDEA: Cyn Mallard The ultimate in idea exchange is a fun forum where people mingle with like minded individuals. There is live chat, Twitter and after blogging. In North Carolina try www.pknraleigh.com, www.tedxtrianglenc.com/, or www.igniteraleigh.com

TOP IDEA: Kirk A. Norris So I started a blog of a fictional story that I am writing. Each post will equal one chapter. I'd really like to have it made into a graphic novel at some point. Doing the blog and making it a point to post a chapter a week is somewhat of an experiment to see if it will force me to be more steady about working on the story. Check it out if you are interested: http://atlantistheblog.wordpress.com/ Keep slangin'

Hey Alicia,

I'll admit that it was my biggest concern before posting the blog. It very well could happen (if it does I guess that means my story was pretty good :P)

With that said, I decided I'd rather share this story, albeit in an unconventional method, than keep it in a drawer forever. There are other avenues to publish the work, sure. However, I want to see if I can make this work this way. I could be way wrong, but I also could be right. So in summary, yes I am concerned about it, but my sense of adventure overwhelms my sense of fear.

Hi Jennifer! I just realized it's been a little while since I've posted. How are you? What are you up to?
Right now I'm getting everything set up to start at ECU this fall to complete a Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology. I've started a part-time job at the library just two weeks ago and I'm considering looking for a part-time lab tech position - but it may be best to wait until after I get back into the groove of being in school, I don't know, we'll see :D

cory huff I've done sales, acting, sales management, search engine marketing management, and social media consulting. I am now working on my own side business where I teach other artists how to sell their art online. I have no idea where this is going, but it's a fun ride!

Alicia DuClos: I'm interested in your side venture of teaching artists how to sell their art online. In what stage is it in, if you don't mind me asking..

Julie Weber I am curious how all of us, who have had several jobs in a short amount of time and at a young age, are supposed to create a personal brand that makes any sense. I have worked in design, journalism, PR and now hope to enter the world of marketing. So, how do I define myself as a professional when my background is so diverse?

With so many doing tightening over the past year, I can guarantee you that many realized that 10 years getting really good at one skill isn't comparable to 5 years getting really good at 10 skills. You can balance years of experience with skills by good team-building. So as you search, check out job reqs for diverse experience and skill combinations.

In your twenties it's more important to show skills than a stable chronological trajectory.

Alicia DuClos Over the past decade I went from library sciences to food service to medical records to park attendant to environmental scientist to handywoman to sales - & I was in school 75% of the time. Now I'd like to get greenhouse/nursery experience, continue with schooling and do something that I've wanted to do since I could pick up a crayon: start my illustration career.
