Hi, I’m Aleksandra – a Gen Y communications professional living and working here in busy, bustling Toronto.
Educated in public relations, I’ve had the opportunity to work in both the health care and telecommunications industries in internal and external capacities. Over the past few years I’ve found a passion for social media and have been using the web to engage in a number of social media networks and communities.
I digg, I del.ic.ious, and stumble upon things I find fascinating. I facebook my thoughts, flickr my photos, and blip my tunes. My experience is linked in while my life is both tweeted and weblogged. I love bringing people together and sparking insightful conversations so you’ll always find me connected 365/27/7.
Come join me as I navigate through social media, technology and life.
Taken as a learning experience after my position as Communications Coordinator was deemed redundant, this opportunity really allowed me to hone my client management skills. I learned how to prioritize changing priorities during a turbulent time as well as how to manage client expectations with positive results.
Unfortunately a combination of a business unit merger & restructure and the looming recession eventually lead to my being laid off in June of 2009.
As the Communications Coordinator for the recruitment team I had the opportunity to focus on employee communications in regard to recruitment. My duties included:
- writing on behalf of the Director of Recruitment
- writing for internal audience (TELUS intranet)
- writing for external audiences (proactive direct marketing campaign via email)
- creating/branding both internal and external presentations
- launch of recruitment policies to internal teams
- event management on both a local and national scale
During my internship as the Communications Coordinator on the Marketing & Communications team, I was able to work on a number of projects including:
- monitoring all media using FP Infomart
- reactive media relations (speaking with journalists/television personalities when they contact the hospital and arranging appropriate hospital spokespeople)
- proactive media relations (pitching stories to the media)
- writing for the internal audience (hospital newsletter and intranet)
- writing on behalf of the CEO for internal events
Graduated with honours.
