Cynthia Welch I'm currently an associate product manager for a telecom company. I'm looking to move forward in my career. I have an int'l business/finance background but would like to continue in the technical marketing field. What applications and software programs should I master in order to move to the next level? Several jobs state MBA prefered however the executive MBA programs dont stress any technical programs. Should I bypass and learn some new skill and if so which ones?

I posted this in a couple groups but I think that you could be a great fit for the study given your marketing position and background. If this is something you're interested in please fill out the survey below.

Adriana Dwan This may sound really silly one of my favorite things about my workplace is snack time :) Every day at 3pm a snack is prepared for all the employees which is only about 60. It can range from ice cream bars to healthy fruit and even guacamole. It's the little things like snacks that can make employees feel valued. Plus it gives us all energy to get through the last few hours of the day.

Adriana Dwan Have you ever had a great on boarding experience at work? If so, what was memorable about it? I think it's very important to get a tour, meet your coworkers and be taken out to lunch. My favorite experiences have always been getting to know my team over some good food.

Corporate HQ for a global company. Obligatory 3-hour orientation (zzzz). But then a full tour, met coworkers. Everyone was very welcoming. I was taken out to lunch by the woman I'll be working closest with (my 1st interview was with her). She said everyone laughed & called her old-fashioned, but she just wanted to welcome me. And it was, indeed, nice to just chit chat in a relaxed atmosphere. Also - a client sent someone in the office chocolate covered strawberries and she shared. So far, it's best on boarding day to date. I mean, chocolate was involved so... thumbs up.

Emily Jasper One of the neat things I've noticed about my organization is that we have an overall culture, but then each territory (we have over 30 global locations) has it's own feel. I wonder if it's a product of the type of people, the culture of the city or country, or a combination of other elements. Is it people or environment? What do you think?

I theorize that (ignoring the impracticality of this) that is one of your locations were to open up literally right next door to another, it too would have it's own feel to it distinct from the other.

Perhaps a good real life example would be coffee shops, how even the same brand could be different from one block to the next.

Adriana Dwan Hi Penelope! I'm a recent MA grad who is interviewing for my first professional job in HR. Although I am confident about my abilities I still find myself asking for less salary than I think I deserve. I'm think I'm being too cautious considering the economy. Any advice for answering the expected compensation question? Thanks!

Adriana Dwan: Definitely a sipper! I like my coffee & tea hot so gulping would take me to the emergency room.
