First job: yo-yo demonstrations and sales. Not a bad gig. Yo-yo biz got its ups and downs though. So I moved onto something more stable. What's more stable than a spinning gyroscope on a string? Commercial arts! I currently crank out killer creative and marketing for three brands in the licensed apparel industry. I love talking advertising, media, business, culture, technology, science and science fiction, music, games, and politics. I read a ton. I dig the creative side of business and I have an uncanny ability to see the big picture.
A new position was created around my skills and I became the designer and illustrator of all collateral materials that fall under the ‘47 brand, including Twins ‘47 headwear, Banner ’47 apparel, and the ‘47 boutique store on Newbury St. Working closely with the Creative Director and Marketing Manager I design, illustrate and prepress seasonal product catalogs, hang tags, store signage, print ads, mailers and brochures. In addition I create electronic catalogs, sell sheets, stickers, e-mail blasts and logos from concept to completion. A vital part of my role is to manage project loads as well as communicate with our multiple print vendors regarding all projects for two brands.
my primary job was to collaborate with the nationwide sales team and specific buyers to customize and refine the current season’s apparel line to fit their needs. I also created quality control templates, improved workflow by implementing time saving techniques, retouched photos, set type for catalogs and trained new artists. As my skills became apparent I was permitted to chip in on anything and everything under the loose umbrella of "marketing"
After doing some successful freelance spot illustrations and covers for this biweekly, counter-culture magazine I was hired as a design tech. My tasks included page layout, typesetting, ad creation, spot illustration and cover design. By the end of my stay, I was sending the publication to print, overseeing quality control on press and conceptualizing web pages for the web design branch of the company
