Abigael Escobal Hi INFJs! Recently I had an interview that I thought I did well in but ended up not getting the job, which was disappointing. My fiance suggested that maybe I wasn't as outgoing, even though I had full confidence in what I said. How do you handle interviews as an INFJ? Do you care to share any tips? Do you fake outgoing-ness?

I am also pretty comfortable with kids considering that I have been a substitute teacher since 2007. I just felt that if I was more "bubbly" that maybe I would have gotten a chance.

Sometimes jobs already have someone in mind for the position and interview everyone to show due diligence. For example, they may have hired a teacher assistant that was already working in the school. So if you prepared for the interview, felt you did well and you were personable, then you were successful! Even if the outcome was not the expected.

Abigael Escobal Do you also feel that you have a high EQ? BTW, sorry about my double post! I don't know how to delete one of them.

Its not just knowing what people are feeling and being able to engage with them but I also get a sense of their history. I can look at someone's face and just know whether they have had a hard life, what kinds of things they might struggle with, who they are, who they pretend to be, why they act the way they do...Its quite uncanny and I think this type of observing is common to INFJs

Abigael Escobal I think one way being INFJ affects me positively is that I know how people think and feel without them necessarily telling me. I tend to do a lot of thinking and reflecting on what I can do to be better at my job.

Abigael Escobal I am totally an IMFJ, which is both good and bad. I feel that it affects my job search and interviewing skills. To the people in the group, how does this affect your job hunt?

I'm an INFJ and career coach who just went through the interview process last year. Most people in my field are ENFP's.

I interview quite well because I spend a lot of time preparing and gathering information. I use the standard "strengths & weaknesses" question to address my characteristics as an INFJ. I think employers appreciate the honesty. It helps them understand that we can do the same jobs extroverts can-- we just need time to prepare and recharge!

I find that in terms of interviews, I can speak more clearly and self reflect on who I am and how I will behave at work. And I think people appreciate that in an interview. We do not need to change who we are. We are sociable after all. We just orient internally first then externally. I also get very shy picking up the phone. I hate it! Unless I know the person on the other end. So thats something Im working on. I like networking but cold calling is not for me. Others?
