Sadya Siddiqui Friends with Money: Two friends decide to start ...well....a start-up. One says I'll put in the money , the other says I'll put in all the daily hours. They both believe this situation will work since both of them are allotting the resources that each of them has - money and time. But will this work? I'm skeptical about this arrangement - i think the friend-with-money will demand results from the other guy & the other guy will always feel shortchanged....

Or the one who is putting in the time and effort but whose efforts may not be as visible? Penelope Trunk What do you think about changing your last name when you get married? I can't believe people do it, actually. I mean, you have an established track record in the workplace by the time most people get married. Why undermine yourself by telling people to call you another name? I have had so much trouble with my own name changes (people googling the wrong name, for instance) I can't believe people bring this on themselves. the practice strikes me as antiquated.

TOP IDEA: Sabera (Kapasi) Photographer Being bold has always helped me in my career. It took a huge leap of faith to be seriously outspoken the first time, but over time, I got better at it (timing, articulation). The first time I attempted shameless boldness was when I asked my then professor at college for a job at her ad agency. I got the job. I've burned my fingers a few times with it but I've come out wiser. I think boldness will be one of the first few skills I'd want to teach my children. How has being really bold helped you?

In those situations, being bold is sort of a "make or break" characteristic. Sure, you can survive by pointing and memorizing the combination of buttons that will give you the right subway ticket, but there's no LIFE in that. Getting to that point always takes time, though. I always go through an adjustment period of awkwardness and embarrassment because I don't understand how things work or how to communicate what I want. After this critical mass of humiliating moments, I get over it and start being bold. And then I can engage the with the world around me and really experience life in the place I'm living.

I'm not worried about Ty thinking ill of my opinion, but he's reacting without reading and blowing out of proportion things I'm saying. When I replied to try to explain that he'd misconstrued my point, he (ironically) replied saying that I wasn't getting his point. @Kenji, totally agree. It reminds me of this Paulo Coelho quote:
The money we receive in return for our eight hours of work each day can be spent any number of ways; the only thing we cannot buy is extra time. So, during the minutes we have, I believe it is better to live a dream rather than to simply dream it. The dream is the start of something greater, something that impels us to make daring decisions. As for support, you're not an approval junkie for needing it. We all need support. But I do believe we can get it outside of our immediate family and friends. Nobody I "grew up" with is an entrepreneur, so when I went into business for myself I had to seek support elsewhere -- family and friends weren't negative but they just couldn't relate and it wasn't fair to expect them to. I was changing into the entrepreneur, not them.

Sunny, I think you should be proud of your degrees and your love for writing. I also believe that getting a job (assuming you find one that doesn't make you say 'ick') doesn't compromise your integrity as a writer. A job that helps to ease the stress of paying bills on time and making sure there's food on the table is a good thing. Besides, if an opportunity for a job/occupation crops up in a field that piques your interest, writing or otherwise, nothing says you can't go after and try to snag it.
