nikki Hi all - has anyone done any event planning/ event program management consulting? If so, what range do you charge per hour?

Ms Nikki:
As a Corporate/Special Event Organzier, I don't charge for brainstorming a idea for an event. I charge for planning and organizing the event. I believe that if the potiential client contacts me and takes advantage of my FREE INITITIAL CONSULTATION I will seal the deal and have them on contract by the end of out consultation. That is when my fees are applied.
I charge a fee for organizing the event. Depending on the organization, I will look at charging either a flat fee or a percentage of the gross income. Either way the client will be required to pay for the retainer and to provide at least 50% of the projected gross income or of the flat rate. The balance is due at the day of the event. Again depending on the organization if it is a gross payment, calulations would have to be completed to know exactly what is owed so that will take no longer the 48 hours. All others are due prior to the event in full!

Hope this helps,

Of course, I write a press release that is issued to the local media two weeks to 15 days prior to the event, with a follow-up 10 days prior and again 3 days prior to the event. If available, I would contact the local associations and groups to inform them of the event.
Hope this helps.

Joseph de Jesus Has anyone done meetings in Cartagena, Colombia? If so, can you recommend vendors you've used?

Ryan Paugh Just read this great post about using Online Invitations to host events. Do you guys use any of these? >> http://bit.ly/awRekq I've used Eventbrite and Facebook, but haven't used any of the other three. I wonder if they're any good. Let me know what you think.

For more public events open to the community I've been using Eventbrite and it's worked REALLY WELL! I even downloaded their new iPhone app so I could check in guests at the door on my iPhone so I had a guest count in real-time. They make it really easy to post an Eventbrite RSVP page as a Facebook event, make buttons & embed code for use on other websites, too.

I haven't tried the other sites, but I'll definitely have to check them out and see what they have going for them.

nikki Is anyone here a freelance event planner? I have been in the corporate setting, but looking to potentially start my own venture. Would love to speak with someone who did the same.

Hunter Slaton Hello. I'm a reporter for PCMA's Convene magazine, and I'm writing our June cover story on Gen Y meeting planners. Would anyone in this group like to talk to me—or recommend anyone I should talk to—for this story? Great opportunity to spread the word about Gen Y's talents. My email is hslaton@pcma.org. I look forward to hearing from some of you soon!

Erin Dennis When running an event, what are ways to gather feedback and evaluate afterward? I usually keep track of how many consumers were engaged and the comments they made, and number of product samples given away...anyone have other suggestions? They should make an app for that!

Are you looking for ideas to receive feedback as an individual exhibitor, or an event planner?
Something that's worked well for me as an exhibitor is to collect basic contact info via a booth drawing and then follow up with either a handwritten note or email.
As an event planner something that's worked well are online surveys - there are a lot of free options out there that you can use and customize to your event.
I guess it just all depends on what information you're looking for feedback on...

A lot of people in the field specialize in one type, or end up having an expansive portfolio in a diversity of specialties, so that they end up being a full-service event production company
