Jennifer Peeler I Just finished the redesign for http://www.augustturak.com. Launching the beta site is a great step forward for our team, and we are looking forward to the results that will come from becoming more intelligently present on the web. I would love to hear some feedback about the beta and anything we should do next from anyone and everyone. Thanks in advance

Ellen Nordahl When you're looking to switch careers and make a move to a new city, what not-so-obvious factors do you consider during the search? I think an important (and often overlooked) factor is the economic health of the region you're looking to move to. Money Magazine recently came out with a list of the nation's "Recession Proof" cities http://bit.ly/cLTk3s. If the general economy of a region was taking a turn for the worse, would it put you off from making a move?

There are jobs, but my career line is Education and I have NEVER felt there would ever be a problem getting employed as a teacher. I did consider this, but continue to believe I'll over come the obvious...I have a teaching interview tomorrow, but I have been looking for nearly 5 months! Before Atlanta I was more concerned about zip codes and crime rates...so every time I move I look on the police site and see which zip codes I will not live in, but would be willing to work in.

*So, in answer to your question I'd consider it, but if I really wanted to move, I'd still move and send out good vibes to the Universe! :-)

Cameron Plommer http://ow.ly/21SB3

In my Untemplater article I wrote how Americans are dependent on others for employment. For me as an unemployed grad, I've proactively tried to better myself. I've started a blog, networked and met new people (on and offline), and started a few cool projects.

The point is, sure I'm looking for the right job in the field I want to pursue (marketing, project management), but I'm also using my time to grow professionally and personally.

What are you doing while unemployed?

So many people get hung up on not finding a job and they should look at how they can better their life themselves and look at opportunities that are out their to teach them how to be in charge of their own future. People made money during the depression, but schools don't teach that.

Cameron you need to go to my website at the-team.biz/1693745 and look at this opportunity. They are looking for some ambitious people to help market their products and have just hit over 2.5 billion in just 5 years. They have great leaders to help us succeed. Email me at changeyourlife@yahoo.com if you want to know where a meeting is close you.

@Dr. Woody sounds like you have a cool job. I'd like to do work like that. I think I have a perspective that a lot of students could value from. I'm working on a project to help people figure out "what they want to be when they grow up," actually.

Meghan Skiff I'm in PHX on business and was attending a happy with local YPs and was fortunate to meet these Gen Y rock stars walking from coast to coast to support the Gail's Angels Foundation. They are blogging (http://coasttocoastforacure.com/) and I thought that you folks would be interested in following their journey. So why are they doing it? They feel that in the past they weren't always appreciative for their good health and life and wanted to help those who aren't as lucky. Check them out!

Cameron Plommer I was going to make this question into a blog post, but I think it is better suited for discussion here.

With the ease at which social media and the internet let's you speak with like-minded people are we creating bubbles of influence that only matter within our own small bubbles? Does this lead to stagnation of ideas and a lack of innovation in the long-run?

What are you doing to get outside your bubble and connect with people not like you and that don't think the way you do?

I've seen multiple arguments (I know Copyblogger has tackled this more than once, but there are lots of other examples) that it's being supplanted/rivaled by context. And I'm inclined to agree - he who shouts loudest and promotes with the most savvy and reach gets heard and lauded, regardless of whether there or not there are 1001 other voices out there (online or off, in just about every industry) producing a better intellectual product and still toiling in obscurity.

I think the nature of online is so fast that the pendulum swing back and forth between content vs. strategy (marketing, etc) as driving traffic is more like a metronome. Given how fast it's ticking back and forth, the media that has solid content will succeed, I think. For that matter, the advertising and marketing with superior content will stick around, too--just look at television. Some of the ads are better than the programming.

Cameron Plommer I want get feedback on an idea I have

I think a lot of high school and college grads are at a real disadvantage when they enter the real world. School ignores so many practical skills and doesn't push students to be remarkable.

I'd like to set up some kind of school, workshop or program that gives students the information, resources and motivation to be remarkable people. Which in turn will hopefully lead to better people and employees.

Thoughts. Criticism. Business partners???

Cameron Plommer I'm proud to say that I have my first article up as of today for Untemplater.com. For you fellow econ nerds you will love it because I apply John Maynard Keynes' famous quote, "in the long run, we're all dead." And everyone else will love it because I apply the quote to lifestyle design and personal improvement.

Cameron Plommer I am wondering what your first introduction to the concept of passive income was. For me it was "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" and and reintroduction by Steve Pavlina. Before these two resources I never thought there was any way to make money besides exchanging your time. These resources really opened my eyes. I am now incubating some ideas that could in the future turn into passive revenue.

So what book/person/resource opened your paradigm to passive income?

Sean Masters: @Danver I didn't go to some fantastical business school as a child, but we learned about money, banking, property, and other financial concepts ...More@Danver I didn't go to some fantastical business school as a child, but we learned about money, banking, property, and other financial concepts between math and history classes - not in place of those programs but in-addition-to them (to be fair, it was apples or oranges we'd talk about in 1st and 2nd grade math classes, and we made the transition to the concept of money by 3rd grade; still, I remember vividly the 4th grade "World History" class where we learned about the foundations of modern banking and trade).

Because of this experience, I personally don't see many difficulties in transitioning from the concepts of "doing chores for an allowance" AKA "working for a wage/salary" into "working for a residual income". It's not an advanced topic at all, it's just slightly different from "do this job and get a paycheck every Thursday" and in my opinion is absolutely digestible by 4th or 5th graders.

Really, the concepts behind taxation (also 4th grade "World History" if I recall - again just my school, doesn't mean everyone's school was like this) would translate pretty readily over into getting paid on an ongoing basis for an ongoing service.

As for creating an entire curriculum that deals with this, I'm intelligent but I'm not that smart! ;)

Cameron Plommer So I check out Seth Godin's new book Linchpin and have read the intro and first five or so pages or the first chapter. As an "economist" I love how he describes the interchangable-worker paradigm of our society. And i can tell I'm going to really enjoy the book. The only problem is that it makes me want to do what the book is preaching so much that I stop reading and go do stuff do make myself indispensable. But I guess that the point right?

There was so much to think about on each page, that it took me a long time to read what is a very thin book. I would read a few pages and then go off brainstorming about some point he makes...have not yet read Linchpin...will have to buy it.

Dariane Nabor Hey Untemplaters! I'm curious to know (if you haven't already seen the 'Ask The Readers' post from last week on the site)...

How do you define being an 'untemplater'?

Does it differ for each person, or is there a common thread that defines the untemplate lifestyle? Or is it a bit of both? Can a person be templated in one part of their life but untemplated in another?

It can manifest itself through travel, through entrepreneurship or via risk taking. It's unique to each person but in the end I strongly believe that without passion, an untemplated life is not possible.
