Tiffany Aviles It definitely depends on your parent's view of why you're home & how much of the outside world they care about. Although my mom won't admit it she obviously does not respect me as a mother or even a woman. Result: a strained mother/daughter relationship. She still sees me as a kid. My fiance's mom, on the other hand, is ridiculously supportive of what my little family is trying to establish & respects every aspect of me. How can the person who birthed me totally not understand?

Rachel Rueben My mom is organizing things I've already organized, refolding laundry I've already folded and answering my cell when it rings. It feels like the 90's all over again!

Tiffany Aviles My fiance & I are living w/ his very generous parents and plan on doing so for quite some time. We are actually going to buy a bigger house to accomodate us all. His parents love the thought of being w/ their grandkids 24/7 & we love the thought of saving money while still having our own space. Sure it can get hectic but we're very grateful for the help & we plan on getting our own digs as soon as we're ready. Even though his parents hates the idea of us leaving.

steph: Haaving a house large enough to accomodate all sounds great. Nothing wrong with that!

Cassie Viau After graduating from undergrad, I also had to move back home. I'm actually living in my husband's parents' home while he attends grad school. We went in knowing it would be a temp. 2 year thing, and that has made it easier to deal with. It has also allowed us to save enough money to pay for a wedding and a house down payment, so we're grateful. (But still beyond ready for our own place!)

Christina Brown I am glad I am not the only Generation Y baby living miserably in my parents' house (not home per se anymore) since May. help! >.>

Karla Mercado I lived independently the moment I stepped out of college and struggled to make ends meet as an entry-level employee living in an expensive city. My conditions improved after about a year but it was still very difficult. Four years into independence and employment I decided to go to grad school and here I am, studying full time and living with my mom. I'm not used to it, but ultimately I consider it a well-deserved break. Because in about a year, I'll be on my own again, thriving on cup noodles!

I don't think it's good to become dependant though... that's never the point. I've spent periods of time in and out of family members homes when I was transitioning. It always worked well for a little while, then I left.

There are things you must accept about them, and things they have to accept about you. You know, the fact you're not 5 anymore!
I noticed that I get a lot of advice from my parents. More than I've ever gotten in my life. I think they're scared but so am I! I mean who wants to live with mommy and daddy forever?

It depresses me but it also makes me feel lucky. Now I hear so many stories of 30somethings moving back.

You have to consider this is an unusual time we live in. At least, most of us are surviving the "Great Recession" without having to eat out of trash cans. I can't image how tough it is for young families just starting out! A lot of my highschool friends seemed to want families at a young age and I now wonder about them.

Rachel Rueben I'm a Gen-Y who had to move back home, it wasn't my dream, but right now both I and my parents are hurting financially. You know college debt, and pay-cuts. It's not too bad, but I had to stop writing full time because working from home is a nightmare!!! I am now full time office employee with no benefits. Hopefully, by next year I’ll be in my own apartment where I belong!
