This group is for people interested in bringing about world-wide affordable modems, handsets and fixed base stations with the Radio Frequencies (transmit or receive) being handled in Software.

Software Defined Radio has been in Research and Development Labs for considerable time, and is just beginning to emerge as a viable alternative to fixed-frequency fixed-purpose solutions. Software Defined Radio can be reconfigured dynamically, and can even do simultaneous multi-purpose transmit and receive such as WIFI and 3G using the same hardware. The cost of SDR solutions is therefore much lower than buying a BT chipset, a WIFI chipset, a GPS chipset, a DVB chipset, a 3G chipset etc.

To join this group, you should have an interest in sharing knowledge of how to create or program Software Defined Radio hardware; be a financer or investor willing to fund or be currently funding SDR; or already have an affordable SDR handset, base station or modem which you are willing to provide technical knowledge on how it can be programmed.
