TOP IDEA: Ryan Paugh Internships.com reminded me yesterday that big job boards are full of junk when they paid Charlie Sheen to post a social media internship and tweet about it. Being Charlie Sheen's intern sounds terrible and it's just one of many mediocre social media manager positions you'll find on big job sites. So I went through some really bad job postings for social media positions yesterday and came up with some red flags for you. Check them out and add your own red flags: http://bit.ly/gj6wRQ

I have seen this too often, and it is frightening. They are ready to spend money on someone, but they aren't ready to use that person. They will likely completely ignore their new "social media rockstar" because they aren't ready to implement the organizational change really using social media will require.

Benjamin Paul Schuman I've been considering deleting my Facebook account. But a thought occurred to me: Would it possibly look WORSE to have a Facebook imprint that abruptly ends at a certain date? Or would it help a candidate if all of their data is outdated? (This is all assuming that Facebook sells background checking agencies ALL of your data, even that which you made "private.")

Jim Armstrong What are your thoughts on StumbleUpon? The platform enjoyed a banner year in 2011 and has more plans to grow in 2012 (looking to expand into international markets and build out its mobile offerings). Would love to know if you use it and for what purpose. Here's a review I did on the platform--> http://bit.ly/yMysQQ

Jim Armstrong I'm sure you have all heard the news this week: that Facebook is acquiring Instagram, the photo-sharing app, for $1 billion. What are your thoughts on this massive price tag for a two year old start-up that boasts over 30 million users? Did Facebook view Instagram as a threat or merely want to further refine its photo-sharing capabilities, or was it a combination of both? Here are my thoughts on the deal--> http://bit.ly/HBxifl

Jim Armstrong Hi Brazen - hope you're enjoying the holiday weekend. This afternoon I reviewed my top 5 magazines and how these are applicable to small businesses. My favorites are Inc. and Entrepreneur, followed by Fast Company, Wired and Bloomberg Businessweek. What are your favorites? What magazines can you not live without? I would love to hear what you think about the ones I love--> http://bit.ly/wcDry8

Jim Armstrong I was inspired last week from an article I read on Fast Company, which outlined how businesses and individuals can build their brands through quick, to-the-point videos. We're following a similar model in 2012 for Get Busy Media and will be including more video in our content moving forward...to provide users another means to engage with us. We would love to hear your thoughts on how you use video for your small biz--> http://bit.ly/zdWZ6b

Edward,

I do not know where you live, but joining GiversAlwaysGain.com is free...and so too is the corresponding Linkedin Group (if there is one in your area). Wouldn't hurt to find out. The REAL POWER in the marketplace today is not technology or number crunching - despite the lame behavior of far too many in the HR industry. So, it is up to caring people to go to bat for caring people. And, one great place to look for caring people is within The Business Connection.

Noel Rozny: Interesting question! I see so many LI profiles that are clearly out of date, and I always assume that people update their resume first and LI later.

Mike Ambassador Bruny I am preparing for a presentation next Friday and I would like to add a few real life cases of how folks have leveraged social media to land a job. Do you or someone you know have a success story you would like to share with the group of Jr./Sr. in college that I will be speaking to? You will get a shout out during the presentation (if you would like). Thanks in advance. If you have any questions for me, please respond to this message or hit me on email Mike@AmbassadorBruny.com

Jim Armstrong A relatively new video series came out in the last year, called Behind the Brand. These videos will get you amped. My favorites: Michael Stelzner, Chris Brogan and Gary Vaynerchuk. La Donna Lokey Wow! Summify was bought by Twitter and will be shutting down! For time-challenged techies (a.k.a. all of us), Summify took away the repetition factor in Twitter and organized the most relevant stories in a digest format. I hope Twitter has a plan, or someone else will surely step in to fill the gap. http://tcrn.ch/yIwvnz

Mike Ambassador Bruny To all my Boston and near by folks; have you ever been to the MegaTweetUp put on by BostonTweetUp? I went last year and will be helping out this year. Jim Armstrong Would love to hear your thoughts on my latest post, "Facebook is Losing its Focus." What a mess this platform has become - plain and simple. Not too long ago MySpace was the most visited web property in the US - now its owned by Specific Media. Facebook needs to tread carefully and learn from its forebears. These two companies do not have close competitors right now. With the emergence of Google+, Facebook just lost that advantage. Facebook now had to make a few moves to preserve it's secret sauce. Otherwise, it'll get "myspaced."
