Objectivists

This is a group dedicated to exercising the rational self-interest philosophy of Ayn Rand (Objectivism) in the work place. No other philosopher has been as great a champion of professional businessmen and women as Rand.

"He [the businessman] is the great liberator who, in the short span of a century and a half, has released men from bondage to their physical needs, has released them from the terrible drudgery of an eighteen-hour workday of manual labor for their barest subsistence, has released them from famines, from pestilences, from the stagnant hopelessness and terror in which most of mankind had lived in all the pre-capitalist centuries—-and in which most of it still lives, in non-capitalist countries." -- For the New Intellectual, p. 27

Jamie Nacht Farrell I hate when someone looks at my career and says, "You're so lucky". Am I really? Or is it about a combination of skill, desire for continuous improvement, tenacity, etc? How do you respond when someone says, "you're so lucky"? I contend that it's not luck, but about CHOICES and what we choose to prioritize in our life at different times; Wrote about my response here: http://bizrelationships.wordpress.com/2010/08/01/how-humble-do-i-have-to... Thoughts?

Certainly, be proud of your accomplishments - you have earned it.
Working hard can be a "gift" that you offer to yourself. When viewed in this manner, hard work becomes a more pleasant experience. Think too, of all the people in the world who have never heard a kind word from their parents. It may help you appreciate your mother's pride, even if you are uncomfortable with her words.
And, since you both have made the choice to work hard, celebrate your achievement and be happy about it... and remember it is a gift that you have offered yourselves.
Peace,

Nicholas Cloud This dude is hardcore. He plotted a driving route across the United States, and using GPS and Google Earth, left a critical message for everyone to see. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/08/13/read-ayn-rand-see-it-writ_n_681...

TOP IDEA: Jamie Nacht Farrell For those of you who have been following the 'for profit college' scrutiny; while I certainly agree there are practices that need to be changed - the NYTimes takes quite a one sided view and does not do their research. I wrote a review of the article from the Times here. The times article was based on the congressional audit that has been going on: http://bizrelationships.wordpress.com/2010/08/03/ny-times-says-for-profi...

Jamie Nacht Farrell As many of us are entrepreneurs/consultants, I'm wondering if any of u have come to the cross road I'm at right now. I love what I do and make great money. However, by working in the start up world (or small companies), I have SHUT OUT many learnings I could have received from HUGE company (50K + employees). By claiming to be open minded, I've actually been closed minded. I'm looking for feedback on this blog post pls. Unsure where to go next...Pls advise on blog..http://bit.ly/aGcwIs

There is truly something to learn in each type of organization. I've learned that if a small organization wants to grow, your experience at large organizations may provide you the next level of service a start-up organization may need.

Nicholas Cloud I've been listening to more podcasts and audiobooks lately, and I learned that The Mises Institute has made much of their material available on iTunes university (http://itunesu.mises.org/). Mises is the leading free-market economic think tank in the United States, and is one of the few proponents of a true laissez faire, market based society.
